Retro Remakes are holding a short (6 week) 2D dungeon competition. The rules are pretty lax, and entries do not necessarily have to be remakes. You can read a bit about it here. It's the first time they've had anything close to an RPG contest.

In the past their competitions have been wildly successful and the community over there is pretty cool. I'm considering entering myself.

I'm joining this one.
It looks like a lot of fun. :)
Anyone want to work together with me?
My selected Target is Python+Pygame for fast development and cross-platform compatibility.
drop me a reply here, or an email at ccpsceo@gmail.com if you want to work on a game for this competition with me.

Yey! Good luck finding a team for the project!

The project I have in mind is very technical, sort of akin to the Crypts of Despair or some of the original ZZT adventures, only without the usual graphical and control trappings of a rougelike. We've got six weeks, but I only plan to spend a week at it. To be honest, I'm kinda pushing it even at that - I'm squandering a huge amount of time on side projects like this at the moment.

I might want to join this Competition, too... But I'd like to do it in Ada; If anybody wants to group with me, feel free to contact me.

Man, I haven't even started yet and there's already been a great game released :) It's not an RPG though.

Rat Cave

It's a little basic, but there's something very cool here. It really nails the feeling of hunting something big and dangerous in a dark cave. Can't wait to see the finished version.

It's not THAT impressive. The geometry looks amazingly simple, something anyone with 5 minutes and a copy of anim8or could do.

I keep forgetting all the tools that are available these days. Still, it looks nice.

Meh. :) I get what you're saying, but Ishi has a habit of making games that play as good as they look. So I'm excited. Also, I never did learn OpenGL, so I'm impressed too, heh.
