It looks like we're having another contest around here.
This time around, an ASCII art rpg with a character party technical requirement.
How long do you think that the contest should be for?

I'm really excited about this...I need a break from my current RPG project. I'm pretty busy, so I'd vote for a month-long competition.

I am fine with a month contest; I chose a week; but after thinking about it more, a month would be better. I wish I could change my vote :P

Question: is the use of non-ASCII characters allowed? Because I really want to use kanji. Also, ASCII art doesn't preclude the use of graphical effects, right?

I'm fine with using any characters, and use them in whatever way you can :-) I don't see why we should be strict about things...

I'm not too bothered about how long the competition is either... Whatever means the most people will join in :D

I'm fine with kanji characters.
I'm also fine with graphical effects, and even mild use of graphics such as enemy sprites and menus.

I think we're going for "the spirit of ASCII art", whatever that means to each of us :-)

I voted for a month.

When do we begin? As Spongebob says, "I'm ready!". :)

Hmm.. Lets start this sucker this Saturday;
that gives anyone up til Sat to prepare their engines.

all game content itself needs to be done during the contest.

what does everyone think of that?

Awesome, so we can all get to work right away. I'm putting my FPS and IRC client on hold as of right now.
