Oh is that so?
Where exactly has this discussion taken place?

Not that I'm dismissing such a thing, just blatantly assuming that we will collaborate is not exactly a smart thing to do given our collaboration work history.

So yeah, I'm thinking of making use of SFML for my entry.
It looks really easy to use, and is cross-platform.
I'm starting to learn it as of today. Looks like a blast.

Well, how about I advise? I can contribute that way, without actually doing any of the work. We can organize an engine and then you can use it with your team.

Sounds like there's an inside joke going on that I don't get.

Nah DevX and I have just had cooperation issues in the past. Kind of an "Ion Storm" kinda deal.

For some reason we never finished Dream Destroyer...[/i]

I heard about this from the rampant games blog!

I will give the contest a plug on my blog (CodeJustin.com) too.

I will also be posting about my development of the game.

I have a few questions...
So if I understand right I can code in flash (actionscript) a basic side scrolling engine before the game starts?
Also I can draw generic RPG graphics?

I ask because I just started learning flash and just got my graphics tablet too (learning to draw) so I can try to knock some of the work out while learning a new development platform :)

Now can I code stuff down to like enemy AI, and even add weather effects ect... or do I have to code those things on game day?

Just not sure how detailed I'm allowed to get (have no clue what I'm doing, obviously waiting till game day) but I'm not sure if it would be consider "unfair" if I just start coding everything possible that might be in an RPG? Would you rather have it be just the core framework of the engine done?

Just want to make sure!

Whatever you feel comfortable with - follow your conscience :P It's not really that important a thing - having fun is the important bit.

It's not wrong to try and get most of the "technical" stuff out of the way before the compo starts - that just lets you focus on stuff like story, dialogue etc - so I'd say go for it :-)

I'm thinking of maybe coding up a generic sidescrolling framework myself for my Pixie engine (if I can get through the last bit of refactoring I'm working on first) - and if anyone is interested in that, let me know and I'll make it available for download in time for the competition.

I doubt I would have time to compete in this, but we'll see. I don't have a Windows machine anymore, but perhaps I could code something cross-platform that will also run in Windows.

:D Glad to see that people like the logo I made!

Tony: I don't know man, you would have to show me that you've got the skill to complete a software project..

Tell you what, you build a simple side-scrolling platformer demonstration using colored rectangles as the temporary art in any language and I'll consider working on my entry with you.
Nothing personal, its just you haven't shown any promising (read: executable, usable, readable, consistent) code yet.

..and that wasnt intended to be an attack on you.
I would love the collaboration, I just need to know you can do it before I start working out the collaboration details. Hopefully that makes sense to you.

Use SFML or SDL or Allegro

Ya, I have no game play/story/design, ect... thought up... waiting for comp to start thinking of something (just hope i dont spend too much time thinking, lol)

Right now I'm just making generic gfx (might not even use, who knows) and creating the framework.
