The idea was abandoned years ago... why not revive it?

You mean starting up a new contest? I'm all in for contests. They usually makes this place live up a little.

Yeah I'd be down with that too. So long as we can drum up a decent bunch of participants.

I'd be in this time, for sure.

I propose a theme: the future.

Hecate is a shared world contest where people make games in the same setting and historical environment.

Ohh! That's cool. But it sounds time consuming.

It's like Lumen Dare: either a weekend or a week. Don't think we've had one longer than that.

If you're working on your game, you probably shouldn't join. I don't think the rules have to be followed to participate, though, and there is no prize for 1st place. You could whip up a side-story to your game, or a brief prequel maybe. It would give your game a certain cult status that would distinguish it from other RPG Maker games. It would show that your world has depth and staying power.

Well Hecate was only one of many different contests. The gist of them are the same thought. The community agrees for a theme and a date. 48 hours is usually the norm and you can use previously created assets.
I think setting the time limit to 72 hours would be probably smart because we always agrees on a extension anyway :).

We should take into account how much time people would actually have to do the work... given responsibilities here these days, 72 hours would probably represent 15-25 work hours for most participants.

Really sounds fun. I'd like to see the results from one to see how one might be able to compete. Still that time frame seems kind short.

The key is to think of what you'd like to do beforehand. Also, don't make the game big. Usually the games take place in a single, large building or cave.

We need to think about the details of the contest, though. Is pre-made art permitted? Can the engine be pre-made? I remember a lot of the past competitions resulted in unfinished games because the engines weren't finished before the deadline, nor do I think there is much value in coding engines from scratch in this day and age. Of course if you take the engine and art out that just leaves production details and level editing. So why not just declare a month long contest and let people do as they like?

Wow! That would be hard core to code an entire new engine for a contest. That really would separate the men from the boys. Still sounds like a lot of fun though. I know there had to be some pretty impressive entries in your previous competitions.

DarkDread has become a notable figure in the community for his entries. Several are quite frankly on par with the early FFs, if not as long.
