ATM I'm too busy with other things.
I did just some experiments with some other drawing routines
since then (which are not better than the old ones).
My conclusion is: hex drawing is as good as it can be
in Java2d (without developing custom drawing routines).
Development of hextiled is also pushed down my TODO list.
Maybe in the new year I can attack something of the following:
 - complete hex view in hextiled (coordinates and
   another redrawing routine are missing as far as I can recall)
 - prototype a loader/map player lib for python/tkinter.
   (this is my main interest)
