RPG Source's "RPG of the Year 2003" Contest
I'm sorry if this is off-topic, I just thought some of you people might want to get in on this.

Here's how it works. Think of your favorite RPG released in 2003. By February 10th, you must prepare a speech/essay argument for why you think that game deserves the "RPG of the Year" title. More than one person can argue for the same game. As soon as you've selected your game and written up your argument, visit this page to submit it.

On February 12th, the entries will be posted for the public to view, while the judges make their selections.

The winning game will be selected on February 16th and each person who argued for that game will receive moderator status on the board of their choosing.

Another winner will be chosen by the panel of judges, for the "best argument," and they will receive any game of their choosing from the list of finalist games.

Games suggested by the judges are: Dark Cloud 2, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, Golden Sun: The Lost Age, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Final Fantasy X-2, Fire Emblem, Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Sword of Mana, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and Xenosaga Episode 1. Remember, you can choose any game you want; these are just suggestions!

(Value of game not to exceed $50 USD; ships only to the United States or Canada; winners will be notified by given e-mail within one week of the contest's end; if winner of game does not claim prize by February 23rd, they will forfeit their prize; one contest entry per person; posts cannot be edited once they are submitted to the Contest Board)

o_________O

I've never heard of a more retarded way to select moderators.

We already have enough moderators actually, enough for years to come. This was meant to be an incentive for people to participate since we wanted more prizes then just "Best Arguement" prize since we understand many people do not feel comfortable with a pen and paper.

Thanks though for your view point, hope to see your arguement and vote!

I guess if you get off on being a moderator at a forum nobody visits, this contest is right up your alley.

So much for welcome Zurukai, but then again he didn't really say hello either. I guess plain advertisements aren't really welcome.

Maybe we could send in some reviews about some of the cool independent RPGs at RPGDX?

woah.. he offers to give people something for free, and yet still gets nothing but negative feedback. I for one think this contest is a nifty idea, and although I don't really care about winning I might just enter anyway.

Hey,

I'm the owner of the website offering this contest. First, I do understand your point concerning the selection of moderators, Valderman. However, we don't even need moderators. That prize is more for distinction than anything else; if they abuse their privileges, their status would be removed just like any existing moderator.

I'm a little confused by what Janus said, since he's a buddy of mine and was informal staff of the website for quite a while. We don't claim to be huge or active... we don't really care.

Yes, this could be considered an advertisement by some, but we do not link directly to rpgsource.net at all. We link directly to the page to submit a contest entry; you could easily enter in this contest without ever visiting the index. I'm personally putting up money just to give back a little bit to the people in this community. Don't take it as such a personal attack on your forums.

Bjørn, yes, you can submit arguments for indie RPGs, as long as they were released in 2003. It'd also be helpful if you included a link to the game in your argument, so the judges can play through at least part of it. Thanks,

Ok, I didn't mean my message as negative feedback, and am certainly not taking it as an attack on these forums (I don't like to call them mine :-)). Although I think I took the wrong conclusion too quick.

Anyway, thanks for allowing reviews about indie-games. :-)

Edit: There, I made an in my opinion more proper announcement in the news on the main page. Nice topic id at your board, btw... I had to split our topic number 666 because the discussion there overheated a bit. I guess special numbers have a magical way of turning up in special threads. :-)

Thank you very much for the news post! And yes, I knew something interesting would happen when I saw the TID the thread got assigned. ;)

Good luck to everyone here on their submissions. I hope to see a lot of indie games represented!
