Alright, I'm done with my break from these forums.
I highly doubt anyone really remembers me, except maybe for that terrible, TERRIBLE way to promote that old project 'Key', or the oh-so-rushed and frankly not much fun at all demo of Worlds Beyond.
Speaking of Worlds Beyond, anyone who remembers that demo or those god-awful character bios I drew up back then... Just... Okay, so maybe asking you to just forget the bad impression they gave and TRY to realize that the WB team is actually trying to put out a game which is as good as we can possibly make it is asking a bit much, as there's always the chance that lots of you guys may judge the project by those bios and that demo.
Though I figure there's likely to be some people here with open minds, so I might as well put up some WB-Related stuff.
Old promo mockups:

In-Action shot of the current engine: (New tiles not yet implemented-- Sorry about the bad quality jpg)

Mockup with the new tiles and character sprites:

Okay, I've said my peice.
If anyone wants to bitch about how crappy those pics look, or do the exact opposite, go right ahead. We're not going to stop just because of a few people's opinions... We're going to alter our project to suit what people say, and keep on building. Besides, those who know the ENTIRE plot of the game, (Nekrophidius, Wombat, Phoenix Voice, etc) and I'm not talking about the basic premise or game page blurb-- should know that it's not just another cheesy ameture RPG.

Whoo, welcome back. Of course we remember you! The DJ that goes like "doof doof wiki wiki doofbadadoof shwoomdoof doof BAM". ;-)
The project sounds nice and the new tiles look great, especially those trees.

Those screenies have a nice, cozy feel to them... Kind of warm and fuzzy. Like a little kitten. _________________ http://www.weeaboo.se

That's exactly the style I was going for, so I guess I succeeded-- Though doing darker, 'colder' tiles is more difficult after getting used to that style.
And Bjorn (tell me how to do the funky O thing and I'll use it!), glad you remember my 'beat', heheh.
(Mini was going to do music for this game, but... He dissapeared. Anyone know where he is?)

EDIT: Aha. I see Bjorn is censored to Bjorn. (By the way... Is that actually pronounced Bjorn, or is it kinda said 'Bee-orn'?)

It's pronounced Bjørn. ;-) Seriously, we've been discussing this on IRC I think, and it was really difficult to explain, until Happy came along. I'm not sure what he used to explain it. Pronounciation is more like Bjurn.

Yeah, me and my brother were debating how it might be pronounced... We're silly that way... I think it was him who said it was 'probably said something like 'byorn''... But yes, now I know the truth. Go me. :)
Anyway... Finally finished the new cave tiles...!
Here's a quick mockup of them... I put the characters in there to test if they would blend in too much.

It looks great so far.
My only criticism is that some things seem to have shadows and others don't, which seems inconsistent and a bit odd.
Keep up the good work.

Yeah, I realize the shadows are rather inconsistent... I'll most likely end up fixing that later, probably by adding shadows to things that don't have them-- Except the characters. It's bloody hard to put a shadow that isn't a black blob on a character and have it look good.
...So I'll probably go with the black blob for the characters. ;p
By the way, here's the new/old cave mockups for comparison:
Old:
New:
I rather like some of the old cave tiles though; I may use them for something else yet.

The old cave tiles look a lot like the outside of the mountain, whereas the new tiles look like the inside. You could probably use both.

I have to agree with Verious on that.
Keep up the good work :). _________________

Welcome back Josiah, although it's a little difficult for me to forget about you for obvious reasons. :P _________________ If you play a Microsoft CD backwards you can hear demonic voices. The scary part is that if you play it forwards it installs Windows. - wallace

Why would that be? Because I use the 'not shutting up to become known' tactic? ...=p
Haha, well, you might wanna check to basic network. I'll be getting my computer back soon so I can finally resume work on this... Fucking jinxed project. Things seem to keep getting in my way.

Hehehe...two of my computers died too...my P233 bought the farm on Friday the 13th in August (oi!) and the Celeron bought the farm a few days after it was rebuilt (around the 27th or so). So I'm stuck with a little Compaq Notebook 100 (a real POS but hey...dual desktops! w00t) until my new mobo/cpu/ram combo arrives in about a week or so. _________________ If you play a Microsoft CD backwards you can hear demonic voices.
