Well, what do you guys think about it? We have had one for each season this far so it makes no sense to stop now :).
Dont know what we should have for limitations and rules thought... rain, red and yellow leafes and obvious, but otherwise... what do you think?

Autumn... What comes to mind.
Rain, red-yellow colors obviously :)
Sadness, pain, depression.
To me, autumn feels like the end or marks the end of something.
Unlike summer, there's a difference between inside and outside temperature - it could make a very nice contrast, entering a nice and warm inn before venturing out into the rain again.
Lonelyness?
A dark secret that one must not tell?
Longing? I already long for the summer. Then, I couldn't appriciate it that much when it was there. - but that feeling of longing one can get when something is over.

I'd aim for a sad rpg although full of contrasts: cold/warm, wet/dry, dark/bright, heck even good/evil ;)

To pick something from above:
- Contrasts in everything. graphics, story, characters and last, but not least, music. Imagine comming from rain and sad music into an inn where the sound is more like laughs and loud talking.
- Loneliness combined with secrets. Maybe a character, most likely the player, cannot reveal a secret that only he knows of, and don't want to talk to people because of that.
- Death or the like. Maybe because of something the main character did. Maybe part of the secret.

Well, that's what I can come up with for now. I'll let somebody else write the story of my entry :) Basically all I have to give right now is my basic like scripting language...

Autumn always reminds me of Halloween, a topic which is full to bursting with RPG hooks, and the music and graphics would be fun to make.

I generally think of rain as being more of a spring thing than an autumn thing, but that may be just where I live. (Besides, we had rain as a requirement in the last compo.)

I like the contrasts idea - maybe you could take it one step further and have the theme be "transitions". After all, the fall is the transition from verdant summer to deathly winter. The trees change from green to gold, the lush, grassy ground gets covered with crinkly dried leaves, the days get shorter and the nights get longer, etc.

Yep, a new contest would certainly be nice. We didn't have a summer competition either yet, but I guess it's a bit late for that.

For an autumn competition, one of the requirements will be to have at least some trees dropping leaves. For a bonus, try to introduce some interaction between leaves on the ground and the characters/wind. That'd cover the technical side of the contest. :-)

Halloween is interesting too, but maybe too restricting as a theme. Also, it's not celebrated here, so I think people should be allowed to make an autumn RPG without Halloween references. ;-)

Then the scale. What timeframe are people comfortable with? Our longest competition (month) had a record lowest of finished entries: 1. I'd say we keep it within a week at least, maybe make it a weekend RPG compo? It's been some time since we did that!

Well for me to have any chance to finish an entry right now, the weekend idea is certainly a nice perspective. I can't take more time off than that right now.
But it any case, it's highly doubtable that I will be able to produce an entry at all... as I can't do story and graphics with reasonable quality myself. But we'll see, we'll see...

A weekend compo I’d be in for, easily. And definitely be in for an autumn compo. I’d be dong mine with a Halloween slant.

I hate you guys.

I like the theme of the contest. Darkness, pain, and sadness are things I can do well. I only wish I could make a game quick enough to make it. My current project (DI Remake) is taking more than a month to do. Plus, I have school and other things to work on.

Oh well. Enjoy your (sniff) contest.

Hey cool! An autumn contest...

Well, if the contest doesn't start / end before I get my arcade game done, then I would love to compete. :)

I have been really really busy with my game, but I think that after it is done, I can take a weekend to get a little autumn rpg done.
What are the restrictions?

Well the idea is that a game can actually be finished within a weekend. Generally we allow you to use an existing engine, and I think we'll do that this time too. Doing it in a single weekend should allow more people to participate actually, and won't keep you occupied for very long (just 2-4 days), allowing you to put your focus back on school and stuff rather quickly.

We had week and month contests, but generally less games are actually finished and the games will take a lot of your time over a long period if you're serious about your entry.

Keep in mind we're talking small games here, not epic ones! Voting will be a week after the contest finished, so game play time is expected to be no more than a few hours at most. I'll label the contest a MiniRPG competition just to make it clear. :-)

interesting autumn makes people feel sad. makes me think of cute girls... wearing long sleeve shirts where the sleeves droop and partially cover hands, only fingers peeking out... little noses blushed from cool weather... smell of leaves. autumn is so cuddly.

mmk bye.

Yeah, Autumn is great. Maybe if I'm done with The Remake, I can use the same engine...I hope so, anyway.

Always remember...Rock is dead. Long live paper and scissors.

Okay, count me in.
I have completed Nadierian Chaos, and I'm ready to work on
my entry. When is the start date and deadline?

Also, can I take the time to create my engine from now til the starting date? .. Oh, and what are the final restriction decisions?

Autumn here simply means the average temperature drops from 90 degrees to 80 degrees. :D
