is it just me, or did the speed of this site really slow down?

was it part of the move, slower connection now?.. too much porn being downloaded to the box?.. what?

Is it all pages or just some pages? Otherwise this is the forum slowness problem I should still fix.

It's very speedy here at the moment, heh.

it seems that hitting the front page is fine, hitting the forum lists is fine, accessing a post in a forum is SLUG, the post a reply page came up quick, and this post will be posted quick, however when it goes to view my post automagically its SLUG.

Same problem here. Browsing the forum is very slow. Other sites are blazing fast, my connection is good. It's really that I hit a forum entry, watch 5 other sites while it loads, write some emails while it loads and then come back to see it's still loading.

Somewhere there was the question "why are so few of the 500 members active". For me I cn tell this is one of the least convenient places to watch, becuase of the bad response times.

Sorry for the harsh message. I just want to put some emphasis on the fact, in the hope it can be improved once it's clear that there _is_ a problem.

Edit: time to load this message: 17 seconds
Edit: second test: 22 seconds

Just testing.
Time to load post a reply page, less than a second.
Time to post reply, less than a second.
Time to reload thread, less than a second.
Time to load edit page, less than a second.
Time to submit edits, less than a second.
Time to reload thread, 30 seoncds.

For me these things don't happen too regulary. Only 2 or 3 times i can remember it being really bad, ie. multiple pages going slow.

The posters before us found the same- it's fast for some, and slow for others. Any ideas how to solve the problem?

Could it be a browser problem? I'm using Mozilla 1.6 on Windows XP?

Dude, that's ancient. The current stable release of Mozilla is 1.7.3, while the releases page currently shows that 1.8 is in alpha-4.

They use Mozilla 1.6 at my university too, that's in Debian testing. 1.7.3 is still only in Debian unstable. Anyway, that really shouldn't matter, though if it sometimes takes that long and short otherwise, clicking again might help...

Don't worry about being too harsh about it, it is indeed a serious problem many people are experiencing, though strangely I'm not among them...

It's rather slow for me too, but not unbearably so.
I'm guessing maybe about 10-15 seconds to post a message.

Ok I hope everything is still working, please keep an eye open. I've made the forum more aggressive to clearing the read entries it makes when you read a topic and to never store them for anonymous users. Anything posted longer than a month ago should never be displayed as new now. This has always been a suspicious part of forum code as I originally also wrote it myself, so I hope this improves things.

Edit: For me the only slow part of the site (but still just a few seconds) is viewing a forum. The more topics in the forum, the slower. Like Gia is speedy but General Discussion is slow in this way. The same goes for the local copy I've running on my laptop. Makes it kinda hard to debug this...
