heh I opened up my programs and harmonized the melody a little last friday. I might get back to work on it.... some time....
syn9's entry is definitely far from what I imagine the melody being used for. I don't think it works too well to be honest, the melody with that style music put to it. The melody is too marchy, and too happy for the rest of the music, even though its in a minor key. Makes me think of nationalist songs. But I like the section that doesnt have the melody. How did you make this? What programs and samples?

Hello everyone. Ive made a small mp3 for the compo but I dont know how to post it. If I could get some help I would appreciate it. Remember anyone can kill Chaos, but it takes a true hero to help a newb.:)

Thanks Mark for posting my entry.
I tried to go for a Final Fantasy IV overworld feel with this but it seems pretty weak to me. I also dont like that I only had midi to work with on this one, but I am excited about being able to join in all these contests you guys run.
Theres a lot of good musicians here from what I've heard, but I am surprised that the music in some of the home made RPGs isn't better with all the willing music donaters.(with the exception of 48 hour contest entries)

Unfortunately, due to a sudden loss of ... well, everything, it was unfortunate that I didn't get to try my hand at it. Don't say it's too late, because, really, it is. It'd take be forever to be the next mozart, much less crank out even one good piece of music... Maybe in a few months... *laughs*. It'll be when I don't have a project to work on. Azion's would be awesome, but is rather short. I like where it was going though. I suppose this a compo like this is going to at least partially rely on personal tastes. syn9's entry was enjoyable, and at least technically a good song, but I didn't appreciate it as much as Azion's. I think there was too much distortion at the normal listening volume, either too much bass or just too many high-saturation instruments for my liking.
And that's my two cents.

All right, it seems that it's winding to a close now so the contest will be ending at 11:59 PM on Friday the 18th (Pacific time). After that, PM your votes for me with who you think should be in first, second, third place (however many entries there are, place all of them). Then I will average the placements and whoever has the lowest average gets first place, and so on down the line. _________________ Mark Hall

I saw that we get a few more days to submit an entry so I extended my previous piece. Ive emailed it to mark and hopefully he will be gracious enough to post it for me. Thanks for the feedback so far.

Yo, azion, I'm just posting to tell you that I have received your most recent file, I've just been too lazy to post it, but I'll get right on it when I'm home from school.
EDIT:
And HERE it is! A definite improvement on the first one for sure. _________________ Mark Hall

Wow thanks. When I first listened to Syn9's entry I didn't think that I had a chance. I think using a typical rpg style was the clincher. I hope we can get more entries next time.

I liked the Azion piece. The instruments sounded kinda... hoarse though. It would be much better with some flourishing instruments---that's an idea.
You know what we really need, is a good software synth. For General MIDI, not just for general instrument design, but a standardized way to play them back. Are there free DLS players out there, do you think?
