I pine for the days when video game music was synthesized, not orchestrated... "Real" music just doesn't fit video games well, in my humble opinion. No offense to "real" musicians, of course. :) I enjoy listening to "real" music, but not while I'm playing a game.

I feel the exact opposite is true: synthesized music --- especially music that sounds synthesized, as opposed to the stuff that sounds like relatively modern techno/house music --- really does not fit games, especially when those games are about knights and kings and such. I don't seem to remember Bach or Mozart playing on synthesizers. (Historical caveat: I realize that most video games with a medieval setting are set around periods many centuries prior to either of those artists, but, I think, the parallel is made.)
