Whew, for a sec I was wondering why you hadn't commented on this line:

It made so many points... and is just so complex...

:p I'd call it sarcasm if anyone but LG wrote it.

Mandrake, do you remember that brief conversation we had last week in the PMs? Prophetic, wasn't it?

Ganon himself was not entirely to blame for what he did. Zelda did nothing to help the Gerudo, nor did her family. That Ganon as the king of the Gerudo would seek Hyrule was a natural evolution of his doubt and his position as the Gerudo's king.

And to top things off you've mixed up Ganon with Ganondorf, who was invented for Ocarina of Time long after the end of the cold war. This would be a case of checking your sources.

Read that link for yourself.

I read it when I linked it, obviously. There's no talking to some people.

Yeah. A non-paying article in a place where they don't question anything. That's a huge credential in my book.

Sure, but it also gets thousands of readers.

You didn't here? Money is the "out" thing now-- free and public is what's "in". Wired Magazine just framed the dot.com craze in terms of the beginning of a gigantic "people power" explosion. Currency is the way of the past, the way of the imperfect. Cooperation on one another's terms--that's the way of the future.

Clandestiny is out. Individual choice is in.

Yeah, I heard that in the supermarket check out line the other day. ::)

I always thought quality was what mattered and the mode of distribution was secondary. But hey, if mass exposure is your thing, why don't you just post your article on DeviantArt?

I'm taking an interest in you, Mark_Y. You seem like an almost irredeemable person.

Got the guts to tell me what your posting name was for those essays on RPGamer, so that I can see what you tried to do with them?

Bravo, Mark_Y. Though I have this sneaking suspicion that LG will still try to prove his 'point(s)' or just ooze more condescention as a defense.

I read your work, referring to the first essay at present. I will read the other one shortly. I see nothing wrong with your assertions in it: it represented a viewpoint that simply could not be embraced by the majority, and you did nothing to mold your viewpoint in that vein. (as I do) Although you were right in asserting that RPGs would change, you failed at the time to recognize the root of that change. Every game offers something, because every game is an exploration of the possible. It is one half of the meaning of life to explore possiblity. (the other half is exploring possibility with regard for the feelings of your fellow man, of course)

Don't be ashamed of it. Just instead answer where you had gone wrong and try to get to the root of where you went wrong. By understanding where you failed to follow the system, you will better be able to predict the flow of the system in the future.

Perhaps no one is truely irredeemable. (although the work of mass killers deserves some serious consideration....)

For your information, I listened to Ganon's OoT battle theme song (the last one) the entire time I wrote the essay. The music was running for 530 minutes when I completed the essay.
I put a lot of time and thought into it. The only intent of the essay was to persuade people completely away from the "stories were weak in early games" viewpoint. Although of course, by denying this supposed truth, readers were opened to a multitude of new possibilities, and I sought to take them through as many as was practical. As the essay proves, the stories were not weak, they were simply poorly understood.

Is the author of a story its master? I think not, unless he is the author of its author. Read the work of recognized psychology pioneer CG Jung at www.cgjungpage.org, and ask yourself then why I think the way I do.

I will not chastize you for falling into the Republican trap of believing in simple labels. :)

You know, I just had a response written to your post that tried to engage with it. But fuck it. The brownies have reached the sickening stage. To quote the Arilou, "[I]gnorance is your armor, your best protection." You've already blunted my wits, and there's no need to waste any more time with you.
