Ok, I’ve been working on this project for a little over a month on and off cause of school etc... I haven’t been able to do AI(mainly cause im clues on where to begin^_^) so its just hot-seat competition... goto my website http://shadowland.cc and there is a link to my game on the bottom of the main Navigation... Oh and I DO know that it DOES NOT support IE but it works in FF...
Also, if you find ANY bugs please take a screen shot of it and E-mail it to me with a description at admin@shadowland.cc... if you have any ideas on how to improve upon it please let me know as well... ;)
Please tell me what you think of the game as well...(don’t bother being all nice about it either be critical that’s the only way ill know how to improve upon it) _________________ Most people would succeed in small things if they were not troubled with such great ambitions.

Oh, your homepage is so dark.
I noticed that the king magically teleports himself away after that the check notice has been flashed a couple of times. _________________

That alpha transparency stuff is really obnoxious. I can barely read anything without hovering the mouse over it.

Because your website was only designed for one browser, I'm afraid I can't view it and will bother with other things instead.
Shame, I was hoping to try it. _________________ Endless Saga

I checked it out. I thought it was very bad to automatically resize the window to 800x600 (as I keep my browser maximized, and loaded the chess app into a new tab within it); if you really need to keep the size of your games page to that size (which appears to be the case; resizing the window borks the position of the board), then you can alter the width/height or margin attributes of the body tag via your stylesheet. (Although, that is not a guarantee, as a user can elect to override those properties.)
And about your dark aesthetic: while I shall not contest making the place practically unreadably dark, having to mouseover specific components (such as the options on the chess game) to be able to even see them (I had no idea those options were even there until I did hover over them) is bad from an interface perspective.
Also, why are you wrapping up content --- i.e. your stylesheet and your javascript file --- in php scripts? That tends to bork the whole HTTP cache thing. _________________ "...LeoDraco is a pompus git..." -- Mandrake

hmm ok, ya the resoning behind the window resize was for the board ;)

hmm ok, so would it be better if i lightened it up a bit or is it best to totally drop the dark/light mouseover ?

I can't see the interface unless I feel around for it using my mouse, which is a little cumbersome. I say, let there be light!
Maybe you could keep the existing dimensions of the browser if you aligned the right boxes to the right of the page. Having the browser resize automatically reminds me of annoying popups for some reason.
A turn indicator saying whether it's white or black's turn to move would be handy.
What purpose does the box in the bottom right serve?
