I think I've got the hang of writing emotionally appealing music. Use of chords in the same key appears to be a common feature of every musical piece I've ever liked. My compositional capabilities are compromised, though, by the problem of tempo.
As easy as it is to arrange notes, arranging them in synchronity with the mental composition within my mind is a very significant problem. I find that even though I have balanced the notes duration-wise, it is difficult to arrange them such that they will play at the same beat as the internal composition and fulfill the idealized song. Changing the tempo disrupts the duration balance between the notes; changing the duration of the notes sets the harmony away from the beat, so to speak.
Has anyone managed to solve this problem?

No really, I mean, has anyone written a software package that will rearrange the spacing between notes to "lengthen" or "shorten" the length of a song in regard to a specific tempo and playing time.

Yes, any decent sound editing package will have the option to time-stretch or time-compress the audio. The problem is that it never quite sounds right, especially when stretching. If you're just talking about MIDI or MOD-type songs, though, it's as easy as changing the tempo, just like that. _________________ Mark Hall
