Can anyone give me a link for what they think is a good 2D MMORPG? I have been playing Illutia and want to branch out a little; try other games. Give me the name of the game, the link to the site, and why you think it is a good/great game.

I would prefer that the game is free or has a free trial offer. I say this because I am currently out of funds, because of the project that I am currently working on.

I like:
  • RPGs that require thought in combat (i.e. strategy rpgs).
  • RPGs that require reflexes in combat (i.e. action rpgs).
  • RPGs which don't focus on combat at all.

I dislike:
  • RPGs where combat basically consists of hitting the attack button again and again hundreds of times for the purpose of leveling up, unless they have a really good story.
  • MMORPGs.

I picked action because I've played more good action rpgs than good strategy rpgs or good non-combat-focused rpgs.

I voted action b/c I like action RPGs. Turn based are fun too, but I grew kind of tired of them.

I've only ever played FFXI, and it wasn't really my thing. I've never played any 2D MMORPGs. So I can't help here, but I'm interested in the answer.

You might want to check out The Mana World. It's an open source MMORPG made by a few guys from this forum, but it's still in early development, I think.

I have played many MMORPGs. The latest one is called Illutia. But I have already played The Mana World, WoW, FFXI, and a few others.

If you would like great site to look at some othe MMORPGs, 3D and 2D alike, go to www.play-free-oline-games.com.

Tell me if there are any other dsites that are good or games that are not on this site that you like

Indeed we're still in early development. The game isn't made by a few guys from this forum though, rather a few guys from this forum joined the much larger development team of the game (attracted by the now historic announcement by ElvenProgrammer).

So, your from Mana world?

I have a few questions from what I remember of the game.

Why are the items prices so high?

Will you be getting more hair and face styles soon?

Will the equipment worn by a player actually show up on the moving character? (you guys have a bunch of characters walking around in tighty-whities last time I played)

Just some things that I thought would make it a better game.

I am one of the main coders on the team since two years, but in this time I've never bothered to think about our item prices (but since we're in alpha phase, nobody really takes current prices serious anyway).

We're happy to add new hair styles as they become available. I know some people would like to see more girlie hairstyles now that we've got women in the game (since version 0.0.20). But no estimation is possible on when exactly we will add new hair styles. Face styles have been thought of, but are impossible with the current client.

Since version 0.0.20 it is possible to show equipment on the player character. Since then the amount of visible equipment has been steadily increasing as artists got around to drawing the additional graphics.

As you mentioned, you are getting more female players. What about female character body types instead of just male? Ofcourse you would include a 'tighty-whitie bra' to the ensemble. I don't think I would worry about building a separate equip image that the female characters wear instead of the male version. Its pixelated, it looks close enough.

Another thing that I have wondered about was the item drop rates. It is just a general pondering. I know you guys are still working on the whole of the game still. Its just some thing that you could look into and tweak a little.

Anyway, I think you guys are doing a great job otherwise. Hey when I get out of college would you guys be looking for a new programmer?

Heh, of course we've had female players from the start and actually I have no idea whether we are getting more of them. What I was trying to say in my previous post is that we added the female character body type in version 0.0.20. And yes, she wears a tight white bra by default. For the next version (0.0.22) it will also be possible for equipment to look different depending on whether it is worn by a male or a female.

Anybody is free to look into tweaking item drop rates. It is nobody's priority at the moment.

The project has been running already for 2.5 years now, so depending on when you get out of college I think there's a high chance that we could still use your help. :-)
