It seems money is becoming more fluid. Risk, too, is diminishing as entreprenuership devalues.
Although the amount of money awarded pales in comparison to the money made by the company, it's a start.

This was completely relevant to General Discussion, because one of the interests of indie developers is profit (or reward, at least) for their work.

More reasonable: $5 per 1000 downloads at uploading.com.
It works out great from a non-entrepreneur's point of view. No price for the software, and you get rewarded for it regardless. Does SourceForge do this yet...?
It would be reasonable for me to work on SceneLion for this reason alone, in my view.

Yeah but the 1000 dowload for $5 offer from uploading.com is better. In particular, if you pay $100 for a lifetime membership, the $5 goes to 10. If you get say, 10000 dowloads, the membership will pay for itself, and all the rest is extra.
Of course, the question is how to get that many people's attention. It's not the best ever (apparently this whole thing is a psychological experiment in the vein of B.F. Skinner's "rats in the box") but it is an improvement.
The important concept is this, that people are rewarded for doing something they were inclined to do anyway. We need more of that. People (most people) are not lazy by nature, that is evident enough from the content of this site.

megaupload is quite horrible. You have to wait for 40sec before you can begin to download the file you want and that is sure gonna make people turned off.
And theres popups too. _________________

40? No, that number changes depending on the popularity of the file in question. I've had to wait an HOUR to download a certain (unnamed for security) file from them before. _________________ Principal Software Architect

Well, what do you expect? The money they pay you for the downloads has to come from advertisement, ads which have to be visible for a long amount of time, be rather eye-piercing and border on messing with your personal lifestyle and private aura.
As such, of course SourceForge doesn't pay open source projects for their downloads, since nobody would want them to start using this kind of advertising. That, and they get most of their bandwidth donated, I'm sure their bandwidth donors wouldn't like it when it would be used to make money.
