Until an employer actually asks, there is no way to tell whether they will care or not (and my guess is that they probably won't). But it probably helps when your education was in a different field or non-existent.
Since recently I'm going through the job application process at several companies, since I'm almost done with my master thesis. They are Google (Ireland), Trolltech (Norway), Quinity, PSB and Oracle (last three in Netherlands). So far, none of them asked me for any online certificates. They go by regular education, work and project experience and in addition they do their own capability and assessment tests to determine whether you're good enough.
