So yeah... I've just been thinking about doing this. Retro style qb mini rpg coding contest... just like the good ol' days, when there were no libs, and fancy things.
Anyway, you can find more info here: http://209.15.208.88/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?s=3d9c0ed15bb9ffff;act=ST;f=2;t=130
Lemme know if you're interested in participating. _________________ "Goth is a way for ugly people to be interesting."

Why not open it to all lang's DD? is there areason for it only having to be in QB? I see no reason why C/C++ or PyGame should be outlawed.

Making it open to all languages would kill the theme behind this contest, which is games made with QuickBasic, hehe. But unfortunantly I can't participate if it's a QuickBasic contest, for even though I possess it, I never learned how to delve into deeper things with it, such as sound and accelerated graphics and whatnot.
I have an idea, I dunno if anyone would care though. How about a mini-rpg where the idea is to make a game barely able to fit the rpg label. This would give good variety.

Sure. No problems with that... so long as the premade engines are your own code. The editors don't have to be. _________________ "Goth is a way for ugly people to be interesting."

'cause it's about time we had a good ol' qb contest. :)
...as I said in my post, I was thinking back to the days when I made Dark Crown, and I wanted to re-create the fun and mood of that... so, it's gotta be qb for old times sake, heh. _________________ "Goth is a way for ugly people to be interesting."

I forget who mentioned it, but someone on this forum recently suggested that we do a design document contest. I think that's an excellent idea. It levels the programming skill and weekend-free-time playing field. It emphasizes parts of game design that people are lacking in. It would be interesting to see the results. It’s damn easy to complete. And not only does it set the foundations for a game that afterwards the authors may be eager to develop (and without the restraints of a contest), but it also gives people the opportunity to solidly develop treatments for games they’re already working on.

Well, the date for this contest hasn't been established yet... but, it's not going to be like right now, right away! ...I want to make sure that enough people are willing to join (probably around 10, at this point)... and that we can all hammer out the details, and the date that is best for us. _________________ "Goth is a way for ugly people to be interesting."
