I'm working on a simple open source fighting game project for fun, and I wanted to add some sounds.
I don't want to record my own sounds for it since its rather difficult where I'm at..too much ambient noise all day long.

anyone have some public domain fighting sound effects?

I need sounds for punching, jump/landing
and maybe some heyaaas for good measure :D

prefer wav format in cd-quality

I'm broke as can be, but you'll get credit for the sounds.
its an open source project and will be publicized as soon as I've got the basic engine finished.

I've found soundsnap.com to be excellent. It's not free, exactly (you have to pay a monthly subscription), but it is royalty free, and you can use audacity or something to record a low quality version of any sound effect on the site, which is what I do.

freesound looks like I need to get an account with them..I'll check it out later.

and soundsnap isn't loading for me.. :\ hmm

(edit)

ok soundsnap is loading...but you can't download the audio..hey how did you record the audio from the site with audacity?

(edit2)

nevermind. I just found a way to get them. linux for the win!

heres how.

#1 view source of page.
#2 locate the soundFile= http://www.soundsnap.com/audio/play/(somenumber here)

#3 use wget to get that file.

:D

awesomeness. free sounds instantly.

(edit3)

ok, viewing source doesn't work...but FIREBUG's ability to inspect a loaded page will get you the source that the site tried to hard so obfuscate. :D

Interesting :) Getting free sounds was always a bit of a problem for me, too.

Umm... I think you're meant to pay a subscription fee to download sounds from soundsnap - just because you found a way to do it without an account doesn't mean it's ok.

I'm downloading the low-quality samples that are able to be played.
not high res samples that you pay for. no harm done.

:D I just wrote a 3 line ruby script that scrapes the html for the links I need to wget ;)

Code:

#!/usr/bin/env ruby
in=%Q{paste html here}
puts in.scan(/File=(.*?)&/)

doesn't get any faster than that :)
