I'm too tired to type something original so I'll just quote my release post from the other thread.

whilst it sounds lazy, my lack of energy is a testament to how fun this compo was :)

I'm calling a night, I'm waaay to tired to add anything good in the few hours I have left, if any proof of that is needed, heres an excerpt from the irc:

Quote:
[01:22] <Sophie_H> I just spent about 4 minutes trying to get the perfect screengrab for the forum
[01:22] <Sophie_H> turns out the F12 button isnt the same as print screen

I will fix it up with by finishing the story, adding more moves and general stuff, but for the purposes of the 48hour deadline, this is as far as it goes. its been fun though :)

Bleah. Handling staircases has been surprisingly burdensome in my design.

I'm exhausted. See my project thread for details.

Ok, game as done as I have time for. It does have an ending that can be played past. If you start falling forever you are dead, I just don't have a handler and I am out of time. It has been a lot of fun. I look forward to playing all the entries this week.

The title is "Already Dead". It is available for Mac and Windows, just go to the blog post for the links.

Well, I'm still working on it, but my brain is fried and the gameplay isn't there yet. Basically I've got the equivalent of the Winchester Mystery Mansion you can walk through (and up and down and up and down...) right now... with unfortunately very little furniture or other decorations to help keep you from getting lost.

It ain't quite bedtime yet, so I may poke at it a while longer, but I'm afraid I've mainly just got a tech demo on my hands:

My entry -> http://forums.rpgdx.net/viewtopic.php?t=2252.

My biggest regret is not giving the player an area or multi-target attack. This makes some of the fights fairly frustrating and tedious even for high level characters. It would be easy to do too. I just didn't think of it before the deadline.

It's not done - but here's what I've got.

Cursor control keys. Up and down only work at or above stairs (respectively). No game yet:

The Manor, v. 0.1

It's a zip file. Just unzip and run the executable ("TheManor.exe")

Excellent work everyone. I finally got around to trying out everyone's game. It's amazing what we can accomplish in just 48 hours. Just make sure you don't let the boss know ;)

While I don't plan to continue my project, the amount of work I pushed through has leaped me forward greatly. I plan to take the next few steps and focus on simpler, parlor-esque style games while I continue to work on and build up my tools. It's been great fun and I'll be looking forward to future compos.

I come away with a similar feeling. I know feel like it's important form e to have a good tool set becuase having a seriously good tool set that you know will speed up development like 4 fold.

Amen.

Since I like to use every experience like this as a chance to learn, I wrote up something of a postmortem of my experiences over at Tales of the Rampant Coyote:

48 Hour RPG Contest Post-Mortemy Thing

The tools thing - and being familiar with them - makes a huge difference. I think if I were to do the same thing this next weekend, I'd be a bit faster (especially if I reused the textures...).

Of course, as soon as I get to know the tools, I either don't touch 'em again for months and forget what I learned, or go searching for something better...

I think this may have been the biggest RPGDX compo ever. Am I counting nine entries, or is it ten?
