Hi Richard,
I know you enjoy working on a project like Dragon Tavern, but unfortunately I don't think it's really working out.
...proprietary details left out ...
While I know you think the codebase would benefit from more extensive documentation, I've thought about it and decided I don't really want to invest the time and energy (and funds) in doing this.
As such, I'd like you to spend the next two days finishing up the current ticket as best you can and then leave it there.

FUCK FUCK FUCK!
now what the fuck am I going to do to pay the bills that are DUE?!
I am officially screwed.
Anyone want to buy 2 $1200 desktop PCs, and $2000 worth of legos?
..gah..fuck it all I should just go dive off the goddamned bridge _________________ Principal Software Architect

Yeah well think about it: this hurts him too. I can't believe he'd be so stupid as not to document his code, and then expect other people to work on it.
Was it like, completely obfusticated beyond measure?
Well, it's up to you.

If you're serious about selling Legos, there is actually a market for used (and out of production) Lego pieces - see http://www.bricklink.com/. I haven't done any business with that site so I can't vouch for them, but that's where I would go if I was truly desperate for cash.

OK #1, and this is something I've learned from my own hard experience -- WATCH WHAT MAKES PEOPLE MAD, AND DON'T DO IT. When people are mad, they are unfortunately mad and only an emotional release of some kind will make them unmad. They also don't like to be made uncomfortable. Think of this as a lesson...
But I wouldn't beg him for your job back either. No sir. What you should do is use your time at that job as a crutch to say, "look, I can do this." Now do some networking and find someone who is not an asshole, who will give you a job worthy of your exceptional talents.
As it is, we now know that the head of DragonTavern is indeed a total asshole, eh?
But yeah it's networking time; as in, meet the whole field-kinda networking. You need to have a list of refences hundreds of names long. I would start working on it as soon as you read this.
That's my professional advice.
DragonTavern was really unoriginal. You can do better.

The problem with companies like these is that they tend to be very cheap. They want to overwork everyone as much as possible and pay the very least possible. I guess this company didn't have any helpers in India though, so they had to hire in the USA, and when they do that, they make sure to be as tight-fisted as possible because "money is tight" (BULLSHIT). They also don't care about your opinions, even if they say they do. You're not there to give direction, you're there to do the assigned work without question. Any deviation from that principle will merely irritate the guy in charge. And in this case, I can only imagine it was even worse because I know you, Rich...you're a lot like me...you like to give your opinions, and you tend to be forceful in doing so. Even if you don't see it that way, that's how you come across. That kind of aggression tends to piss people of authority off, and when you're dealing with a company like this who's already stupid beyond measure, it's much worse. You're not suited for a mere worker role, you need to be in charge of things. But if you have to settle for a mere worker role, you've gotta play by the rules.
There ARE jobs available. But the thing is that the media keeps portraying our economy as this broken, downtrodden system that, despite making "recovery", is still bleak. It's bullshit. There are several factors effecting this outlook. not the least of which being the fact that far fewer people put their money in the bank anymore...ever since GWB the genius deregulated banks, people don't trust banks anymore because they are screwing people over left and right and getting away with it. That, plus the failed housing market...plus other similar factors too numerous to list here...have made this situation out to be the worst thing since the depression of the 1930s. It's a lie, but people are stupid and they believe it.
My wife and I were out of work since March, and though we did attempt to start up our own business, it ended up failing because of a couple of unforeseen factors (and one large douchebag). So we looked for other opportunities, and my wife ended up scoring a sweet job as a publicity agent. Now she makes plenty of money. And the guy who trained her for her job said that they've been MORE successful in these times...if the economy was so bad, then they would have done much worse, but instead, business has never been better. Just one small example of how this "bad economy" thing is full of bullshit.
Sometimes you just gotta swallow your pride and take what you can get. And don't think you're too good for any particular job; some income is better than no income, even if the work sucks. _________________ If you play a Microsoft CD backwards you can hear demonic voices. DevX, you really have a hard time there. I don't know what to say, to give advice. Currently one must be very creative to get into jobs, I think, because so many companies stopped hiring, and only those who can offer something that sets them apart from the average worker seem to score.
It's tough times. I wish you good luck, still.

I sympathize--there's nothing worse than a boss who doesn't make his expectations clear, then cans you when you don't meet them. That's his fault, not yours.
