Is it just me or DirectPlay sucks ?

I've never programmed something network related yet, but I wouldn't use DirectPlay either. That's mainly because it's not platform-independant, and probably also because it's probably very complicated.

I would try something like HawkNL (Network Library), or GNE (Game Networking Engine) which is based on HawkNL. But I haven't tried them yet so I don't really know if they are any good.

but its not really a cross platform thing either, and your uses may need to get the winsock ocx to use your proggie.

I really don't see what the big deal with platform independance is. There's no need to cripple your software for the sake of platform independance. And yes...DirectPlay sucks a goat nad.

Sure, I don't want to cripple my software either. I'm always trying to find easy to use cross-platform libraries that have a low cripple-your-program ratio.
