I'm in the process of doing some mophun stuff... it's, well, different... but not too much so. It's fun, but then again, I like limited platforms. Pixelling for a screen that's only 101x80 in size is a real blast, I'll tell you that.
Anyway, as for what to pick... if you're planning on doing this professionally, I'd suggest the platform that has the biggest market penetration out there... which, seems to be Mophun based games, currently. _________________ "Goth is a way for ugly people to be interesting."

J2ME is the widest supported language/API out there, I think its got about 5 million handsets worldwide, whereas Mophun had about half that (from memory), oh well 2.5 million handsets is enough. And J2ME doesn't really have much in the way of support for writing games, whereas Mophun is directly tailored towards game creation.

I'm actually doing an RPG... a shock to everyone, I'm sure ;) ...it's a mix of SaGa Fronteir 2 art style, and Golden Sun/Final Fantasy 6j mechanics... but of course, very much scaled down. _________________ "Goth is a way for ugly people to be interesting."

I'm looking at doing a multiplayer turn based strategy. Probably set it up to use Bluetooth, IR & SMS. Although I think SMS could get a bit expensive.
