I'm new here. I found this site totally by accident and decided to stick around.

Ive been interested in making an RPG for a while, but Im no artist, nor have I quite figured out the correct way to make a game work in sequential order :). For example, I can get a title screen up, but from there, I have no clue how to go from there.

I guess Im stupid hehe.

Heh, you're more than welcome to the title screen for all of my RPGs. Programming's just like everything else, I think: practice makes, well... you won't be perfect, but at least you have stuff done, which is almost as good.

I remember someone saying to me once "Perfect practice makes perfect"

I guess all I need to do is look at some complete source code to a game and I could go from there :)

Thanks much :).

I just started throwing together a small engine for myself.

I encapsulated the DirectDraw window creation. All I have to do is derive a game class from my window class and plug in GameMain, GameInit, and a GameShutdown.. works kinda like a DOS structure game I guess.. hehe :)

Sounds like you're trying to insult me in some way.

Please refrain

Personally, Id rather you go ahead and insult me rather than sugar coat it.

I may not be the best coder in the world, but as soon as something resembles even anything close to a book, people tend to start crying newb.

Yes I have Andre Lamothe's book. So what? You did imply that I'm some newbie coder who can do nothing more than copy a book.

However, if that was not your intention, I apologize.

I started off with Andre Lamothe's book when I started. I found it invaluable. I don't even own it anymore, I don't know where it went to, all I need is the online DirectX help files from the Microsoft web site at this point. But, I consider it a great stepping stone into graphical programming. Good choice, Raiko.

It's a great book heck I've even taken the time to email the author about corrections, although he did agree that my way of doing it was quite vastly
superior and the way it should be done he also thought that it would in some ways be harder to understand so he decided against it.

And I didn't intend to inslut you in anyway I ment just what I said that is sounded like the code from the book and that it's a nice start

Then, as I said, I apologize.

:)
