Here's a JPG of a picture
And now the PNG
What's up with that? The PNG is like twice as dark as the JPG, or is that only on my messed-up computer? However, in photoshop or any other program I load it in, it isn't this dark. I have this problem with PNG's all the time, which is why I'm still using GIF's on my webpage.
Another interesting thing is that everyone else's PNG's look all right, it's just my PNG's that screw up. _________________ Mark Hall

Hey, I saved your jpg and converted it to a png with gimp and the colors were fine. Here's the settings I use when I save pngs with gimp:
Interlacing (Adam 7): off
Save background color: off
Save gamma: off
Save layer offset: off
Save resolution: on
Save creation time: on
Compression Level: 6
Maybe you have gamma on? I dunno.

Ya, my PNG images weren't working with my webpage, so I changed to gif... you may want to look through the encoding of pngs if you're interested enough.

I can be handsome when I want to. I just don't want to right now :)
Anyway, after some extensive google-ing I figured out what my problem is. Korndog's right, it's the gamma thing. And I'm using Photoshop 5.0 so saving PNG's is a pain. 'Scuse me while I go out and buy a newer version. (It's called buying when you download an illegal copy for free, right?) _________________ Mark Hall

Old stuff. Photoshop CS 8 is out, go get it at your nearest FTP :-)
Seriously, go get this Gimp 1.3. I'm experiencing it as rather stable and it fixes A LOT of the things that always annoyed me when using the Gimp 1.2. Among a lot of things, it introduces panels, which resolves the many small windows issue quite nicely, undo's limited by memory (not by number), optional menubar instead of the right-click menu, all new colorful icons, etc. It's not yet available for Windows I think though...
