As a kid I used to love Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. Tabletop RPGs were always my favorite games to play because of the story design and ability for the DM at adlib adventures. While most of the game eye-candy behind Explorations is inspired by commercial RPGs, the database design and script language is inspired by tabletop RPGs.
As the developer, how do I gauge Exploration's success? Simple, Real world application.
The screenshots below were inspired from Dungeon Magazine, March/April 1998; Issue #67, Volume 12, No.1 I will attempt to use my DarkLands library to recreate the module, "Witches Brew" by Steve Johnson. ( p.8 )
While the map below is not a 100% recreation of the map within the magazine it does greatly resemble the Town of Woody Glen layout. I spent some time getting this map created and have learned a few assets and short comings of the Explorations Map Editor. (tweaking for v7.89 release)
If I decide to script this entire module, I may release it for free as a DarkLands debut game! I didn't want to expose these graphics yet, but I can't help myself.
* trembling with excitement! *
Enjoy.. _________________

uh... those screenshots look ok, I guess... but why are you posting them if you're not even sure you're going to release it? all the houses look the same, it might be nice if there was a bit more variety. the solid shadows look a bit odd, as well, considering that everything else looks more realistic. The grass could probably use a bit more detail, too. How about some blade of grass sprites you can walk behind? Compared to the stone walkways the grass looks kind of bland.

I don't care for the graphics. I can't see the gameplay.

There is always rm2k for you guys... I think those 16x16 tiles, 256 color may suit your tastes.. LOL
Whether you like the graphics, or you think they are just... O.K. My paypal account continues to receive orders.. So I really could care less.. More people who have used Ika, TK, Fury, RM2k are getting tired of the same poor quality, limitted graphics and are looking for something more robust.
I'm no graphic artist... so these screens are just to show what an *amature* can do with Explorations.

Looks great explore. One of the few impressive projects I've seen on this site.

I'm not familiar with RM2K, but I have seen 16x16 tiles, 256 color graphics that looked better than that.

If you can't impress somebody with screenshots, impress them with your paypal account - then tell them that you don't care about their opinion. Whatever.

You do realize that, graphics aside, I could use any number of free map editors to create similar screenshots, right?
I don't have anything against you or your project, but your posts to this forum are starting to get pathetic.

First off,
Read my original post.. I explained where the screenshots came from. I explained why I liked AD&D and the focus behind part of Explorations. You and Kevin are being TROLLS so you got a taste of your own sarcasm. ;)
Don't take it personal.. just put up or shut up.. I've seen 2 or 3 posts from you in threads that I've started to just show some of my work. You seem to have a little bit of "hater-ation" in your messages. LOL
If you don't like me, Explorations, or the screens, why post at all? You've yet to offer anything constructive to any of my threads but you claim.. "I don't have anything against you..."

I've impressed Rooter.. And that's enough for me.. ;) Maybe when you grow up a little you'll be so lucky as to have your own commercial project. (and a paypal account like mine..) :P
Rooter,
Thanks man... Just trying to keep the project moving forward.. :) - So many jealous people in here..
What a jerk? LOL

What the fuck are you talking about, explore? I give you feedback on your screenshots and you go off for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Would you prefer if I just went into detail about how your graphics are all boring, unoriginal stock 3D assets used without any sense of style or design whatsoever? At least then you'd have something to get angry about.
If you want to impress us and get us to applaud you for your work, why don't you spend your money to hire artists and designers with actual talent instead of wasting your money on derivative, bland stock graphics and copies of Poser?

You're a troll Kevin.. I've stated before, I have no real desire to speak to you. You respond to my threads because you are a jealous troll. If you aren't impressed why do you waste your time?
This nor ANY of my threads is directed to you or "wanna-be" programmers like you.. Just go away... Don't you have Fury2 to debug? or something?
LOL - Where is a moderator when you need one?

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
That is seriously all I have to say, explore. Seriously. I don't use Fury2, but I've seen it in action, and I've seen your piece of shit in action, it owns you. Kevin isn't a troll. He owns you too. You seriously are in your own little explore RPG world. _________________ Guile says: Go home and be a family man.

Yes... I am.. Me and the people who support me. ;) As long as my product continues to sell, I really don't care about kids like you. Common, do you really think wasting your time posting is going to affect my product? Do you think that your opinion counts to me?
This is a simple screenshot thread, and you've made it a flame war. Is this the maturity level of rpgdx? - Welp, I'm outta here...

Gee, seems like you have a lot of free time these days, with all this posting on message boards. Did the department of natural resources finally fire you for wasting time on the internet at work?

Explorations: Seems to me that you only care about how well your product sells, and don't give a fuck about any constructive criticism anyone gives you.
And about the graphics-- They aren't bad, but they are bland. They've got no... Style.
Personally, I prefer 256 color hand-pixelled graphics over isometric pre-rendered ones, but maybe that's just because I'm a pixel artist, not a 3d modeller, and I've grown fond of the type of art I work with.
Anyway, the point is, you're being a careless asshole about your 'superior' product.
I honestly do not give a shit how well it's selling. If you didn't give it your all and won't take crits, then it's not worth it.
I'd much rather have a project that I cared about that didn't sell at all, than one that I didn't put any effort into and sold like crazy.
I know you say you care about Explorations, but... It doesn't show.
Or maybe you care too fucking much, to the point where you won't change anything no matter what anyone says.
EDIT: I'm eager to see what kind of half-assed, pointless retort you'll post next.

I don't think they're bad, I think they could be great with more variety and style.
But personally I prefer pixelled non-isometric graphics.
It's all opinion, really.
