But not one of those "one month" ones we always have. How about a 48 hour contest, for old times sake?
I dunno, I haven't thought much more about it than that. There seems to be a bit more activity around here at the moment, so I'm just throwing the idea out there, heh. _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

That's exactly what I have in mind. And this weekend too, if possible, heh. Depends on how quickly we can organise it, I guess. I know a few guys in some other places who might be interested in participating in the insanity of trying to making a full RPG in a weekend. _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

One weekend? Hmmm. I'd probably be in, provided it was soon. Sounds like fun.
Any restrictions on platform? I haven't got the wherewithal to build on anything except a Mac at the moment... I'd probably do it in python so it'd theoretically be cross-platform...

Platform shouldn't be a restriction: I think it would be a good idea to keep the rules as lax as possible, considering that the time thing is a pretty major limitation in itself, heh.
Though I would like to play your entry, so making it in python is a good idea :) _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

Argh. I'd love to participate, but Frayed Knights is pretty much demanding every spare second. Unfortunately, that's unlikely to change through most of next year. _________________ Tales of the Rampant Coyote - Old-School Game Developer talks Indie Games, RPGs, and the Games Biz

I would love to enter too as I haven't produced anything in the last two contests that we have had (and I started one of thoose ¨_¨). I don't know if I'm busy this weekend, but I'm busy the next. Any thoughts about the rules? _________________

Sorry to hear that, RC :(
Yey BMB! As for rules: one thing I was thinking about was to define a few RPG stables and make it a requirement for each game to feature them, which would have the advantage of making each developer focus on enough elements to release a fully developed RPG.
For example, we could make it a requirement that each game features all of the following:
- At least one regular battle
- At least one boss fight
- An overworld with at least two locations
- At least one talking NPC
- Some semblence of a plot
I dunno, this is just off the top of my head :) Throw suggestions in and let's get this thing going! _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

Sounds like fun, but as always I will ditch out so I don't side track my concentration on my own projects.

I think it's a good idea to keep the rules simple, no reason why we shouldn't keep it open to all platforms and dev tools for example :-)
I like the idea of having a list of "requirements", like that, but maybe we could make them semi-optional, in that you won't get disqualified if you've missed any of them out, but it's something to take into consideration when we judge contributions? So an awesome game without a boss fight will still stand a chance against a mediocre game with one... ? _________________ www.mattiasgustavsson.com - My blog

Sounds interesting. Consider me interested.
Not this weekend tho. Any after should be good.
Can we build engines beforehand like the old comps? _________________ https://numbatlogic.com

Ah yeah, no need to be too strict :) Or we could come up with different restrictions - I'd also be nice to have a theme for the contest. Suggestions welcome!

I'll start a poll to see if we can get some consensus on the date. Pre-made engines should be fine :) _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

Would we be allowed to work in teams? I might rope a friend into helping with artwork and the like.

In the past we have always had themes based upon seasons (the last was horror thought).
I like the relaxed restrictions :) _________________
