SAWD can be found here:

http://devxcode.googlepages.com/rpgs

I had to submit my entry now, as my health is forcing me to retreat to my bed & get some much needed rest (nearly a month of damn near non-stop coding was a bit much...)

So, good luck to all contestants, and I'll happily try out anyone's entries. I'll check here when I get up each day to see how things are. But I cannot spend any more long hours writing code for awhile at least until I regain my health.

Goodnight all.

--edit--

If you downloaded the game, and got a runtime crash when resting, then re-download the game from the site above.
a friend called me and told me of this outrageous bug that happens fairly early on. I don't know how I missed it.
Anyway, the new game zip should be fine.
Please report any other bugs that may have slipped my sight.

--edit ..again--

My friend called me and informed me of another bug....pulling my damn tired ass out of bed to solve it quickly, I've uploaded yet another patched game.

This IS the final patch, as I'm turning off my computer for the next 24 hours. ..I feel like utter shit.

Hey, I tried out your game, DevX. You have some real talent as an ASCII-artist. When I saw the character class selection screen I laughed out loud at the different people. I wasn't expecting anything so detailed. Nice job.

I played it through to the end and didn't meet any bugs or anything. I like how you made a fairly detailed game within the constraints of ascii "graphics" and with such a simple interface.

Glad you liked it.
Hey if you'd like to, you can play my final release.
I revamped nearly everything. I added save/load.
I Fixed leveling up.
I think I solved item usage.
You can use items in battle.
Magic Scroll items work now.
The enemy has a much more interesting AI now (its sort of smart, in that it will try to defend or heal if its severely damaged)
I added an end-of-battle screen like most console rpgs have.

Overall I'm very proud of my creation. :D

My entry, barring any last-minute changes: Kanjiland

Features:
  • NO plot
  • NO documentation
  • NO explanation
  • NO conclusion
  • NO music
  • NO sound effects
  • NO cutscenes
  • NO title screen
  • NO usable items
  • NO inventory screen
  • NO character names that would require more than one character to write in Japanese
  • NO monsters that cannot be represented by a single Japanese character
  • Some silliness, but NO actual sense of humor
  • Active-time battles, particle effects, etc.

Let me know if you encounter any problems.

Hah, interesting entry :D I just played one battle, but I'll come back to it later.

Hmm... maybe I should take a few hours and put together something simple with the Buster Drake entry? Just for the sake of having something :) Today's the last day for submissions, right?

Yeah, go for it Terry! :D

I'm doing a last burst on mine now, I doubt I'll get battles working before it's time for me to submit, but I'll try :-)

Here's my entry (the project pages seems to be inaccessible at the moment, I'll update mine when it works again).

http://www.colossusentertainment.com/forumref/bloodlines_1_0.zip

I didn't have time to finish, so battle is only half done, but you can get out of it by pressing ESC...

Alt+F4 to exit the game...

I'll keep working on this in the next few weeks, because I have lots of ideas for stuff to add to it :D

Edit: Oh, and some screenshots (I'll add them to the project page as well when I can get to it)

...and another critical bugfix, hopefully the last one. I also turned down the difficulty toward the end of the game. It is now possible to win. (And by winning I mean beat the last boss. Who respawns. The game has no conclusion.)

I haven't run into any apparent bugs yet in the first posted version.
I must say, I'm enjoying leveling up my characters...hehe I have almost 100 gold too.

I like how you used the Kanji that represent the different things in your game, such as the mizu for water, moku for trees, kusa for the grass, hito for the npcs except the king that you used a kokuto.

I haven't figured what else you used yet...only so much time to spare, and looking on kanji in my kanji book takes quite some time.
So far its fun. I like the battle system. Its sooo fluid. :D

I'll continue to level up for a bit before I go download the latest version...that is, as long as my savegame will load..otherwise I'll stop now.

A shame that both you are Terry have dropped out. I thought that there would be more entries to play. :(

What about submitting just what you have so far?
