Okay, until Bjorn can hack the main contest page, here is a temporary contest results post. You can verify that it is correct by looking at the voting poll page.

SAWD by DeveloperX

Kanjiland by Rainer Deyke

Bloodlines by Mattias Gustavsson

Wow...apparently I won.. cool.

Thanks for those who voted for my game, and congrats to Mattias & Rainer Deyke on their entires.

Its a shame that we didn't have more entries, but theres always next time right?

Okay Bjorn, now its up to you to go hack the project pages. :D

Congratulations DevX, and Rainer too. Well earned!

Hopefully for the next competition, I won't be moving house as well as completely re-aiming my life at the same time, and will have time to actually finish my entry :D

I still have some plans for finishing off Bloodlines though, but I'm not sure if I should stick with ASCII or go to more detailed gfx... what do you guys think?

Congratulations to all of you!

I always admire the participants in such contests, not so much because of the results, but because of the inspiration that they need, and the perspiration that they suffer.

So big cheers to all of you who made it to the finishing line :)

@Mattias: In my book ASCII wins extra style points. There is a group of ASCII fans, but I cannot tell how big it is. I'd say, stick with it and see what feedback you get.

Thanks guys! I guess my determination and perseverance this time around paid off. I've kept a bit of a development journal during the 2 weeks I made SAWD, I'll clean it up and 'publish' it online soon so that others can see what I went through and what went right and wrong and also what I chose for priority throughout. :D

Mattias: I think you should stick with ASCII.
Your entry has a LOT of potential, and if you had been able to get more of it finished before the contest ended, I have no doubt that you would have won. Your battle 'images' and the terrain were far better than mine.

This was a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to the next competition.

Nice job guys. I got a chance to try out a couple of the entries and was impressed by the amount of depth and polish you managed.

Now let's put this ascii madness behind us, okay? =) =)

I don't really mean that - it's fun to make things within constraints. It can force you to be creative.

That can be arranged. I'm a bit exhausted right now to dig it out & upload it tonight; but drop me a reminder email to ccpsceo@gmail.com and I will get it together for you some time this week when I've got spare time. :)
I'm glad that you like it. The source license is a simple GNU GPL* so as long as you keep with the terms of the GPL then you're free to use it.

* I just know someone on this forum will have something negative about me releasing under GPL instead of straight freeware...heh

Ok, I'm off to bed..its 4am...night all.

Here's the source for Bloodlines (such as it is) as well:

http://colossusentertainment.com/forumref/bloodlines_source_1_0.zip

It's completely FREE though, you can use it for ANYTHING you want. No retarded licenses restricting its use ;-)

I LIKE giving stuff away without a catch :D

Haha! I KNEW you were going to post something like that Mattias. :D

Anyway, you can find the source for SAWD here

If that link doesn't work, just go to the SAWD project page

http://devxcode.googlepages.com/rpgs

and the link is at the bottom.

a few things to note that I forgot to put in the readme.txt

I do NOT consider this to be good source, nor is it properly commented. I was in a major rush to get this game finished that I put aside all my normal programming practices and just literally wrote it out as I could think of it. There was zero planning, zero preparation.

If you aim to use this source to learn how to make a game, then I recommend you pass it over, as it contains a lot of tricky code that without a good head for figuring out very large blocks of code, you will surely get lost.

However, I am willing to provide limited support on the code, so if you have questions, just ask. :)

Just curious, not being judgmental or anything... but do you always write procedural C?

I never used to be an OOP freak, but after being forced to use it extensively for the last 9 months or so, it's starting to make more sense for more applications.

nope, not at all. I am very much into OOP.
As I said, I tossed aside all my normal programming practices to just "hack" the game together as fast as I could.

writing a good OOP program requires planning, and I did zero planning on SAWD.

All of my serious projects (not contest entry hacks) are quite modular and very thought-out.
