Anyone remember the good old days of searching for obscure information online without google?
I cannot for the life of me pull any information on this item anywhere.
Google doesn't know much other than ebay links that are dead.
I need to find out all that I can about it. Mostly technical information is the most useful.
GATEWAY CB486DX33
If anyone could help, it would be most appreciated.
Troubleshooting info, user manuals, hardware debug codes, etc. anything related to it is useful. _________________ Principal Software Architect

Because I have 2 of them that I am trying to get running.
Both are seemingly "locked" in an off state.
They WERE working, and then just shut themselves off. simultaneously.
(edit)
Okay, so I'm trying to get help from Gateway themselves...and guess what? they are fucking assholes!
Heres the conversation thus far:

Hello. I purchased a few extremely old Colorbook 2000 laptops secondhand, and I was wondering if I could obtain more information about them.
For instance, the troubleshooting guides that the old Gateway techs used, or consumer user's manuals, etc. Pretty much anything that I can get on them. I have searched online for hours to no avail. I know that they are far outdated, yet I still figured that I would give it a try to contact you guys.

Dear Richard Marks,
Thank you for contacting Gateway. I would be happy to assist you with this issue.
However, with the serial number 931285458 we are unable to pull up the system details. Please send the correct serial number.
The serial number is a 22 or 13 character alphanumeric or 11 digit SNID number which you could find next to or under a bar code in several locations.
· On the bottom of a notebook
· On the back or side of a desktop
· Under the front sliding door on a desktop
· On the original computer box
We will do the needful after getting the correct serial number.
Please visit our web site http://support.gateway.com/
Have a great day!

The laptops were purchased directly from an individual (not any retail location) with cash. There is no proof of purchase.
I'm starting to become very upset with your level of customer service.
All I wanted is some information on an obsolete product that your damn employer might still have lying around collecting dust.
Why can't I just get the information I desire or a "Sorry we don't have obsolete product data." message? Why is it that you think you need to ask a dozen questions. What does it MATTER about proof of purchase? Its a damn obsolete device, its not like it can be stolen!

It looks like it's an automated service. Try goggling a recent serial number and using that in the form to see what happens! _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

Have you tried sending the serial number with the e-mail? It's usually to be found on the bottom of a notebook, on the back or side of a desktop, under the front sliding door on a desktop or on the original computer box. _________________ www.mattiasgustavsson.com - My blog

I'm assuming you missed his initial post with the email conversation between DevX and Gateway. Sending the serial number in the email was the first thing DevX did, then Gateway didn't believe him, so he sent them the picture of the bottom of the laptop. They still refuse to acknowledge that DevX has a valid serial number despite the evidence he's provided.

Get them on the phone. If they give you the same response, ask to talk to a supervisor. If you still get the same response, ask to talk to THEIR supervisor. Make it clear you won't back down until they deal with your issue.
You'd be amazed how well this works (5 years in the UK taught me that lesson :P) _________________ www.mattiasgustavsson.com - My blog
