PostPosted: Thu Jun 03, 2004 12:58 pm    Post subject: Download my old games? [quote]

So, as I said in the news post, all of my old games which have project entries here (Mysterious Song, ...in the Nocturne, Mattress Warrior, Secret of Cooey I, Secret of Cooey II, Legend of GrimTold demo, and Secret of Cooey III demo) have working download links again, including the somewhat hard to find Legend of GrimTold tech demo, and the Secret of Cooey III demo (my best work, imo).

Anyway, I figured I'd open this topic, so we could talk about these old things if we wanted to... and for anyone who's playing through them, you can use this topic to ask me about how to get through certain parts, or what the hell was I thinking when I did that, sorta questions as well. ;p

Heh, yeah, it is... I find myself digging it out now and again, and zipping through it, heh.

Actually, just the other day, I was playing around with MSDX... well, what was completed of it, at any rate... the castle, overworld map, and first town... plus new battle backgrounds.

Speaking of which... would anyone be interested at all in me releasing this demo? ...it's the same old MS you all know, just with prettier graphics, so it's nothing big... but, if anyone wants to see it, lemme know.

heh, yeah the games you design have a sort of replaybility you don't find these days, indie or not. I find myself playing 'em from time to time just for fun. Brilliantly designed.

I'd be interested, but you'd have to find a way to use sound in XP.

PS - Glad to see you're not dead :)

Wht for? ...I never got as far as re-implementing the sound lib into MSDX... so it runs silent. ;p

...and I'm not dead, I just do different things when it comes to hobby stuff (namely, I have a few bands/music projects)... and hey, this hobby has actually paid out a little bit, too. :D

Thanks a lot for updating your games! I'm happy we can spare the space (and bandwidth :-)) to host them for you.

I tried playing soc3demo, but no luck in either Wine, dosbox or dosemu. What did you use to create that? Doesn't seem only QB, with that DLL hanging around, didn't know QB did DLLs... or does it?

Ah, that one has ds4qb in it, so the dll is win32, as is the ds4qb.exe program... so, I don't think it's possible to play that under anything but native win98... I think I still have the code for that game though, so I could see about making a no music version.

Oh, and thanks very much for hosting the files. I really appreciate it. :)

Hmm... Once, I downloaded a game you made a long time ago called eternal frost(..?). I couldn't get it to run. Do you have a exe of the game?

I should still have it backed up somewhere... it was just a short demo though... only the first town, and the castle dungeon... with one zombie type enemy to fight.

In case anyone else is wondering, Eternal Frost was basically Legend of Lith III, heh.

Hello DarkDread! Finally found my way back to this page :) I was once a member of your board on Darknes Ethereal. I think I called myself Murasame then. I participated in a contest whatsoever.
What I wanted to say was that I think its great that you put your games up. I have followed them since I started programming QB :) I still remember when first playing Dark Crown or when Distant Promises was released :) So I wonder, do you have any other stuff to put up? I recall that you were working on about five projects some time. One of them was a remake of Dark Crown. Even if those are very unfinished, do you think you can upload them? Also, I think that you posted some Resident Evil-style game somewhere but I never got the download to work (could have been someone else called DarkDread). If it was you, please upload that to! I want as many of your games as possible!
Thanks for all man! Cheers!

heh... I have, literally, dozens of projects in various states of completion, many of them playable... yes, the dark crown remake was playable, so I suppose I could post that... and Mysterious Song 2 was, apart from battle engine, pretty much finished, heh.

As for the RE style game, wasn't me... though I did want to do something like it... never really got anywhere with it though.

Anyway, yeah, I need to look through some of my cd-rs, and I'll post what I find, heh.

ever heard of vdmsound? it's a utility that enables sound in xp.

btw xp seems to hate ds4qb++ or ds4qb2 or whatever. the point is that it doesn't work. try it on a 98 machine. it'll run like a dream. but all other sound problems, use vdmsound.

Hey Dark,

Loved your games, especially Distant Promises. Pity you never finished it. Anyway, I have a question: Can you recommend a good lib for me to use in QB? I tried Rel, but it doesn't have a good scroll function, and I ran into memory problems in it. To remake Dies Irae, I'm using Dash, but for some reason, I can't Pcopy within my script engine. Please advise?

Thanks,
I am Har har har
