I've been listening to a lot of remixes of video game music lately and almost nothing else.
I'm probably going to get the next Linkin Park album, hehe. I consider myself to have good musical taste but everyone has a guilty musical pleasure and mine is angsty nu-metal :) _________________ Mark Hall

Hah, I admit I sometimes indulge in the genre as well. Totally got my ass handed to me for even mentioning it once on a 'purist' thrash metal forum.

Hahaha, yeah, I always say I can be a bit too open about myself sometimes. It was mostly just a couple people though; the 'leader' of the opposition (starting to sound like a war now...) being a total asshole who claimed to be very tolerant yet defied the meaning of the word in every way possible. I later found out that he apparently still lived in his parents' basement at 40. He was banned shortly after, and I actually got a small barrage of PMs telling me it was safe to come back. So yeah, most of the community was actually quite good. ;)
Also, to be fair, I wouldn't really say it's a 'purist' forum-- It just tends to focus on thrash metal. So I was a bit out of line for mentioning it, but so was the reaction. :p It was actually quite epic though, if I do say so myself.

You must be drunk or high, or both drunk and high to like that brainwashing bullshit trash of a band.
Honestly, I figured I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and listen to a few more songs by them....and they SUCK!
Truly man, I don't know what you call music, but thats just not it.
Go listen to a real band like Led Zeppelin or Ozzy. _________________ Principal Software Architect

Just got the new Linkin Park album.
Funny thing about their first two albums, is if you play me a song from either of them I'd be hard-pressed to identify which album the song came from. But their new album goes in a completely different direction. I'm not sure if I like that direction though... I wanted some more overproduced formulaic nu-metal dammit! _________________ Mark Hall

You mean Linkin Park aren't nu-metal anymore? Whoa! :p (Or is it just not overproduced and/or formulaic?)
Seems lots of nu-metal bands are slowly abandoning the genre, like Static-X suddenly putting these insane shredding solos in their songs (dead serious, it shocked the hell out of me). Unfortunately they still can't seem to keep their picks from endlessly chugging that low C string.

They're definitely branching away, but they could still be classified as nu-metal... though there's no clear boundaries to that definition.
There's several quieter, reflective songs, one which sounds like it could have been done by U2. Also, they're not trading off between rapping and singing mid-song very much at all. _________________ Mark Hall

Recently I've been playing a nifty game by Rockstar called Canis Canem Edit (or Bully, outside of Europe). Fantastic game, and significantly better than I was expecting, to be honest. But the nicest surprise? Its funky, bass driven soundtrack which I've been listening to for weeks.
Check out these for examples:
Vendetta, Preps
Russel in the Hole
Punishment
Or you can get the full soundtrack here: Emuparadise Forums
[edit: p.s. if anyone gets the soundtrack, the best ones are "Defend Bucky" and "Hattrick vs. Galloway"!] _________________ http://www.distractionware.com
