Well, I have a question. Why do you want 50+ FPS, Bjørn? 30 FPS suffices for film here in North America, and in Europe I think they have even fewer, and film certainly has fluid enough motion. Or am I comparing apples and oranges?
Man, I wish I was Dutch so I could have funny letters in my name, too. That's so cool.

My conclusions are this: there might be some compatibility issues for running the rpg iI am working on, because I am using opengl(for 2d). hmmmmmmm. But, it shouldn't run too slowely I mean, I am going to draw ~100 textured quads, not that much. _________________ "computers are only as smart as their programmers"-me I think

Personally, I thought it was hilarious, Suchiben.
You never noticed how RAM comparisons often get a little, well, hmm... compensatory, Barok? I just hope that, for my game's sake, size isn't everything.

Punkkingman, you are kinda right about the orange things, a game is something totally diffrent than a film. In a film the camera usually stands still, there is something called motion blur and it isn't interactive. As an example: In LOTR 1 there's a moment when they're traveling and the camera move's like hell, that doesn't look really smooth.

You might not be surprised if I told you that in my opinion movies, especially when viewed in the cinema, should have much higher FPS. Indeed, most noticably the scenes where a lot of stuff is moving (the worst is when turning, when the whole background is moving), I get really anoyed by its low FPS. They should give 50 fps a try, though again, 100 fps would be even MUCH better. Remember that reality has infinite fps.
UT2003 multiplayer has by default a framerate cap of 40 fps for improved synchronization, I hate that.

Haha, yeah it's a funny letter and I'm proud of it. It's not in the Dutch alfabet though, it's Scandinavian (Norway in particular).

Well, okay, I'll take your word about the FPS thing. I never really minded the 30 FPS in film; but that's quite possibly because I've nothing with which to compare it. But 100 FPS? Poor indie directors will go broke on film stock alone.
Hmm... not knowing the difference between the Dutch and Norwegian alphabets is a little embarrassing, though. Oh, well; I'm just a poor old Canuck trying to appear cultured enough to hang out with the Europeans. I live to be embarrassed and learn new things.
I've just noticed how very off-topic I've led everything. Sorry. I promise I won't say anything more on this thread unless it's very pertinent.

Frode (my real name) isn't a Dutch name either, it's Norwegain aswel. Don't think we've lived in Scandinavia or something. except for our names and it being our most visited vacation location we've got nothing to do with Norway.

Actually, I believe film is 24 fps, which is on the low end of what the eye can still coalesce into reasonable motion. This is why film scenes seem to jitter when the camera is panning quickly.
By way of comparison, NTSC video (don't know about PAL) is 30 fps interlaced, which means that it is actually 60 fps, but you only see every other scan line of each frame.

Film runs at 24 FPS. If you take animation classes, they usually have you start running films at 24 FPS.

PAL is 50fps but the same dealie. PAL is higher resolution though, so that's why I guess there's a reduction in framerate. The human eye can only see about 60fps, so anything more than that is just wasted framerate.
