In little more than 24 hours, the compo will be starting. Discussion here has shown that rules were lacking in the part where you are expected to reveal certain things in your game's description. So here's a short adendum:

1. You should describe what you started out with, ie. the completeness of your engine and what other resources you already had before starting.
2. If you didn't fabricate some resource yourself, name it's source or at least indicate you haven't made it yourself. This is just for decency's sake.
3. Put up at least one screenshot, when possible. :-)

At 1 and 2: People judging the games will need to take this information into account.

---
And now I'm back to debugging my RPG engine... it currently generates a debug exception at random (so it seems) place and time. Arg!

So, I guess the compo starts in just 2 hours (it's just after 5pm, est)... everyone better start getting their asses in the #RPGDX IRC channel. For those who don't know, the server is irc.esper.net ...once you're connected, just type /j #RPGDX and you'll be in the chan. Good luck to everyone!

Right now I'm working on the first two rooms. The game is going to be set up sort of like the original Zelda, except it is going to take place in a single dungeon. Not action based like Zelda, either, sorry. I'm going to do a simple battle engine, haven't even started work on that. I'd take a screenshot and post it, but it is looking pretty right now. I got debug information draw ALL over the screen. I'll post a screen of it after you've seen the real thing just for a laugh.

Looks like we're having trouble with the IRC channel now. Here's my first demo: www.skylockgames.com/MandysQuest.zip - 338kb

Just confirming the extension of 24h of the compo here. Not that I can do much else. It's hard on the people not getting the news, or getting it very late, it's also not good for people that gave up earlier that could have finished something, and also, monday most people won't have much time, but the people who happen to have will have an advantage now.

So overall, I'm against it. But because the contest isn't about winning anyway, but about finishing a cool little game for once, I'm fine with the extension.

I didn't get an answer as to what thread to put this on and I'll be away tomorrow so I won't be able to update it until Tuesday, so here's the final zip ->http://www.skylockgames.com/downloads/MandysQuestFinal.zip

and here's the source (Dev-C++ project/source files, requires Allegro to compile) ->http://www.skylockgames.com/downloads/MQ.zip

jdinger, the right place to put the download link is on your game page, and I see you've already put it there.

Ok, with the extension added there's still about 13 hours until the end of the compo from now. Right here, I will remind everybody of the requirements of a final, judgable, game. You have to update your game page with at least the following:

- The download link
- At least 1 screenshot (when possible)
- A description, containing:
   * Whether you made the graphics/music/engine yourself (or which parts of it)
      - If done by yourself, whether the graphics/music/engine was already finished before the compo (or which parts of it)
      - If not done by yourself, where they came from or who made them.
   * A summary of what the game is about
- An updated title (final name, without "compo entry", etc.)

There are also some requirements on the download (new!):

- Contains everything needed to play the game (smaller downloads may be provided for people already heaving certain stuff). This requirement is about DLLs for example, but doesn't apply to stuff like the JVM.
- Contains a README.TXT with at least instructions on how to play the game (ie. controls).

I will add a link to the contest page from game pages of participating games, so there's no explicit need to mention that in the description. Not sure when I will have this finished though. Voting will commence next weekend.

The link is up. Give me some feedback even though it won't do much good anymore.

Thanks,

I hope you don't mind that I am fixing some bugs after the deadline. I would say this is perfectly ok, and would have thought about this the same if our game didn't have any bug (really! :-)).

Hoping to have uploaded the last update now (R3), here's the link to the project page:
http://www.rpgdx.net/showgame.php?project_id=142

We're planning to add music, sound and some more gameplay elements like leveling and treasure finding to the game later. This short story will be an integral part of a larger game still to come.

Yeah, cool name. The B-Man... never thought about it that way. :-)

Sorry about my review about your game adam, I hope you can understand my argumentation. I did beat the Jojo master, though never could find my way to the other guy because I really couldn't find out how to walk to him.
