Yes, it was most certainly said in jest. :) And no offense taken. _________________ If you play a Microsoft CD backwards you can hear demonic voices. The scary part is that if you play it forwards it installs Windows. - wallace

I wrote a MUD in a couple weeks for a school project once. Not quite the same thing though. And I had another guy working on it with me.
While I really enjoyed the last contest and fully endorse future ones, I might be a bit too busy to participate. I hope it goes ahead though, and who knows, I might join up at the last minute.

Theme sudgestion: Take a game and make it an RPG.
Eg: Make a bowling game where you can level up your skills and have a dramatic story about how your love interest was kidnapped etc.
Or puzzle quest might be a better example of the idea i'm trying to get at. _________________ https://numbatlogic.com

A MMORPG might be a bit strong, yeah :D But I'd be up for having the compo being to make a MUD. You could choose to make it graphical or text based, or even web based, and the only real requirement would be more than one player in the same world... _________________ www.mattiasgustavsson.com - My blog

I wasn't suggesting making a full blown MMO in one week, rather a stripped down version of an MMO to demonstrate basic networking and multiplayer.

ASCII art seems like good idea. I think more people will be able to complete games since you dont have to waste time on the graphics stuff.

I like the idea, but it's a bit generic. An ASCII-art or text-based RPG with a specific theme would be better, but I'm open to anything right now. _________________ If you play a Microsoft CD backwards you can hear demonic voices. How about this...
Make an RPG where you use as many classic RPG clichés as possible. And...since it would basically be a cheese-festival of games, the game would have to include at least one direct reference to cheese. _________________ If you play a Microsoft CD backwards you can hear demonic voices. I think mine will end up cheesy regardless of whether it's the theme or not :D
Another suggestion for a theme: Party. You control a group of characters, and can recruit characters to your party.
On the other hand, ascii-art/text-based would be a good enough theme in itself I think... And, as was mentioned earlier, would mean more people could enter without having to worry about the graphics... _________________ www.mattiasgustavsson.com - My blog

oooh a character party sounds like a good technical requirement.
What is the minimum? 3 characters?
I still vote for ASCII art. However, not limited to a dos game;
I recreated the ms-dos character set as a bitmap; so my entry if I make one would be cross-platform compatible. _________________ Principal Software Architect
