Not at the moment. Newer screens wouldn't be much different anyways, since for now I'm still using the original graphics. The only difference is the area effects and extra graphics used for some places (like the pipes in the sewers). What's changed for the most part in terms of graphical representation is improved animation and an overall smoother-playing engine. Can't really show screenshots of those, unfortunately. :)
Oh...and the sound is much improved, since it's now using FMOD instead of BWSB. :) _________________ If you play a Microsoft CD backwards you can hear demonic voices. The scary part is that if you play it forwards it installs Windows. - wallace

hey, I remember the Darkness Ethereal board. I have some vague memory of something called Serenity ... hrm. And someone called HydroXide, believe he was finnish ...
Hrm... just wanted to say Thank you for all the inspiring and well made RPGs. Plus you introduced me to one of my favourite bands; My dying bride. (back in... 1999 I believe) _________________ Well...

hydroXide ended up changing his nickname to wolverian. Sometimes you can find him on efnet #quickbasic and a few other channels I believe. And yup...he's Finnish. :)
Wasn't Serenity the thing with DarkDread and Myst that predated Darkness Ethereal? _________________ If you play a Microsoft CD backwards you can hear demonic voices. The scary part is that if you play it forwards it installs Windows. - wallace

Darkdread,
At your DarkDreams website you mentioned something about gathering older computer parts to produce garage-style "vintage boxes" for playing old-school games on. Although I believe that the rampant pace of technology makes most of your idea impractical (consider, in two years top-of-the-line PCs will be equipped with 2GB of ram, 400GB harddrives, 8Ghz processors with 4MB level-3 cache, videocards sporting 512MB VRAM, etc.), I agree with you that there is a market for these games on low-end machines.
S-M-A-L-L low end machines. ;)
Palm produces a 160x160 Zire PDA running at 200mhz with 12-bit color, 16 megs of RAM, and a USB port for $150. Considering that the Gameboy Advance SP runs at $100, it seems to me that Nintendo handhelds will at some point be facing serious competition from Palm PDAs. Consider also, that Palm produces their own software emulator for PDA development on the PC. This same emulator could be used to run Palm-developed games on the PC as well as the Palm. I think that the PDA market may be just the niche outlet independent game authors have been searching for.
What do you think?

I can't remember. One thing I do remember however is "Raven night" - I believe that was what he called himself - returned to the scene and everybody thought he wasn't Darkdread, just some lamer trying to hog "the glory". Some qb-magazine actually wrote that they had sources close to the Dread himself who claimed that this "Raven" was an impostor. Those were the days ;>
I remember an old forum, though, that kind were you wrote an "*" if the topic was the only thing in your message. I frequented that old board.
It's seems like only yesterday the first thing one did was to check the http://members.xoom.com/qbasic_rpgs site and forum.
Didn't you, Nek, have somekind of RPG that had been in development for quite some time? The longest time sofar for a Qb-rpg? _________________ Well...

The Wrath Of Sona. It's now been in development for 12 years. It's no longer being made in QB though; I ported it to C this year to finish it.
Palms are starting to look mighty attractive for development. :) _________________ If you play a Microsoft CD backwards you can hear demonic voices. The scary part is that if you play it forwards it installs Windows. - wallace

Damnit, I had hoped you had abandoned that project so my 4 year old would be the oldest still active. :P _________________ Well...

*Mystt
Yep, it was... Serenity basically was an early version of DE... not much came out of it, as most of the stuff being worked on was just switched over to the DE name anyway. _________________ "Goth is a way for ugly people to be interesting."

Hey Darkdread, you're more than a bit talented at art, aren't you?
Who here has taken a Meijers-Briggs test?

You know, I never could get the second demo to work. There were memory problems weren't there? Like, you needed a very expanded base memory to get it working properly. I tried all the tricks, but it only ran once, the first time I got it, and it crashed right after I killed the first boss.
Yeah, i've got a lot of memories from back when DE was up and running, and had its own board and such. Glad to see both DD and nekrophidius are back in action. Incidentally DD, i've got a few of your *really* old games backed up on my hard drive from way back when, plus a stable release of SoC3 and just about everything else, so if you're missing anything just e-mail me or something and i'll dig it up.
This post is late I know, but I don't visit here as much as I used to, and really i've lost the indie-gaming bug. Still, seeing and playing some of the games i've picked up this afternoon reminds me just why I used to love it so much. Cheers guys. _________________ Previous nicks: MidnightDreamer, The_Anarchist, Shroomasta.

The second DP demo required something like upwards of 590KB free base memory plus EMS emulation and wouldn't work without sound. I don't remember if the third demo was ever released or not but I have it here somewhere...I also have the version I converted to use DS4QB somewhere (the original DS4QB developed by me, not a later build by anyone else).
Anyways, the new RPG engine I've developed which is being used for WOS and RGB is also now being used for Distant Promises. It's nice to have an engine so portable and for once I'm actually happy with my work. :) _________________ If you play a Microsoft CD backwards you can hear demonic voices.
