..well my horoscope sure is a nice one today..
Quote: | Take the creative juices that have been flowing and turn them into something constructive today. Even your best ideas will quickly fade away unless you can ground them with action. :D ..guess I might be able to pull something together.
I haven't got much done on my entry in days, perhaps today is the day for a leap in efforts. Hehe
...edit...
Yes, I was right. I've made a lot more progress today then I have all month. Finally got something working out.
You can checkout info about my entry by clicking here

Alright, I've just added the competition and it should be possible to subscribe to it with your projects!
BarMrBox, if you want please provide me with a description for this contest, since I didn't quite know what to put in there.

Hm, I'm not sure that I have an more indepth description than just "it's ascii based (kanji allowed) with or without a party" :S _________________

If I remember correctly the "Party" requirement was dropped.
If not, then I've screwed myself.
As for a description, its pretty much just a "spirit of ASCII mini rpg competition" whatever an ASCII rpg means to you, thats what you should make. I think that sums up what we all ended with in the discussions. Of course my memory sucks and I could be wrong and or missing things. :D Someone else want to help clarify things?
Oh, and I'm still making steady progress on an entry for once.
This is a record for me. As this is a solo project, I've NEVER made it this far without any help. I'm proud of my achievement, and very excited to get feedback on it when its done. And it WILL get done, I'm not about to get this far and quit if the going gets tough. I've faced hell's baddest beast and simply told it to sit. ;)
Again..how is everyone else doing on their entries? Don't want to say or something? .. _________________ Principal Software Architect

Ah, sorry - I've got a lot of things going on at the moment, but I'm still working on it. Here's a WIP screenshot:
The Zs are zombies, heh.
I've got no idea if I'll make the deadline, but I'm having fun with it regardless. :)
I like your screenshots, by the way! Nice work! _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

Cheers ^_^
I'm worried that it's a bit premature for screenshots though - that map is just a mock up for testing engine stuff. I haven't actually made any content yet :( _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

well it looks like you guys are getting your entries in order. i wish i could say the same. but i'm in the middle of a major setback, as i've had to scrap my combat system. i've already started over on the combat system so hopefully it won't take too long before i have something working again. i hope i have it finished before the deadline.
good luck with all of your entries _________________ Life is what happens while you're waiting for the stress to subside...

Thanks. I am busting ass on my shop gui code (which is a major pain in the ass..almost 70% of my code is managing the gui now!)
I have my shop code written, but there are problems with the way the gui is drawn that causes visual errors, so I'm rewriting the system as a double buffered system to eliminate the problem. A small set back, but once I've got that done, then I can turn my attention to the ever-so-important battle engine (which will be rather easy to write with the gui code already implemented)
Lastly, I'll need to add the player's inventory screen, save/load games and a title and credits screen, and then I'll be done. :D
Terry, yours is pretty cool looking. I hope you get time to finish.
I like the ZZt-ish zombies. ;) are they real-time hunting you?
Also, are you using a custom graphics-mode ascii-mode-emulation engine, or the windows console or another library?
I'm using the win32 console since I haven't had any experience with any console libs and I also did not want to write a graphics-mode emulated ascii-mode game. _________________ Principal Software Architect

Thanks :) Yep, the game is real time!
I'm using LibTCOD, which I think I mentioned earlier in this thread. It's saved me a lot of grunt work on the console emulator and so on. _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

cool. realtime zombies. sounds like fun.
I just finished my shop interface code.
I am neck deep in the battle interface code now.
I really hope I'll have time to finish it, if not, I'll end up making it a very simple battle system for the contest.
There will be only 5 different enemies 2 of which are bosses; not to give anything away.
I'm experimenting with MCI commands as well to have midi background music & wav sound effects.
If anything, this will be an interesting entry. :D _________________ Principal Software Architect

Well, I'm out.
I hit upon an idea for another game, and I've been spending most of my free time working on it. So I'm shelving Buster Drake for a while :P
Sorry. Best of luck to the other entrants! _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

aww, that's a pity. But I was tempted by the VGNG compo too, so I can relate :-)
But I guess we could do another extension if that would help you finish Buster Drake... :D _________________ www.mattiasgustavsson.com - My blog
