SARCASM IS HARD TO DETECT ON THE FORUMS. Are you seriously going to remove the cursor?! That's crazy! I mean really; not being able to see where it is could totally screw up the game! The worst thing that ever happened to me in a game was due to me not being able to see the cursor; I had reached the final boss, the Miracle Dragon, on GS2, and was messing around with the menu color and was unable to see the cursor. I accidentally quit the game, and when I tried to start again, I ERASED MY FILE. Please, please, please tell me you're being sarcastic!

Here's a big hint. Your question was covered already on the other boards you frequent where I've brought up Endless Saga. You even posted in the thread in question a few times. And there even are screenshots of different gradients used for the window.

I think that should answer your question, yes? ;)

Anyhow, I've gotten the sound and music singleton up and running. It's still too crude for my tastes; I'm going to have to split things up into methods before I can declare it complete enough to move on (I'll probably add things to it as I need them) Right now though, I can play some MP3s and do cool stuff with them like add echo or raise the bass to the point of distortion.

ES supports 6 filters.
- Highpass filter
- Lowpass filter
- Echo
- Flange
- Chorus
- Parametric EQ

These filters can be hooked to any given sound/music individually (ie, some l33t skill could use some echoing "shink!!" sword sound, or music could filter through a highpass filter to sound like it would just outside a room with loud speakers playing music à-la nightclub) On top of that, I can tweak the pitch and pan a sound; with a bit of work I can make some damned impressive scenes out of all this. :)

Eh. I dunno. 's all Greek to me. Guess I need to check out OpenAL... And, uh, cuz of the ban (FOR ALL YOU PEPPELS WHO THINK IT'S MY FAULT IT'S NOT GO TO RPG-DEV.NET FOR DETAILS) I haven't really spent much time on RPG-Dev lately. I have posted a few times in the forums concerning my own project and the ones concerning Zatark/Reo 15x/Aquabuddy and all the other *bleep*ing spammers who got me banned, but other than that I haven't really looked around there.

:( I miss everybody from there... even Z!re and Nekrophidius.:(

EDIT: If anybody seriously goes on there to figure out what the crap I'm talking about, my username there is Unbeliever. BIG Thomas Covenant fan.

The thing at RPG-Dev wasn't your fault. Doesn't think anyone have said so either. Its to bad you all have the same IP.

Talk about unprovoked off-topicness.

I'm taking the week off to work on little things I've been putting off and forgetting about. For instance, smooth-shaded objects (did that yesterday; the map was already smooth-shaded but not the objects sitting around on it), time-based movement for the menu cursor (done, too), splitting up data into packed resource files, some source-cleaning and commenting, and so forth. I also tweaked the day/night system last night and made the BG follow the overall illumination more faithfully (it looked too pale during the darkest hour of night in relation with everything else.)

If anything, I'm very proud of my audio engine's ease of use. I've hooked up a few sounds with the menu screen and now get some short "toop!" sound when the cursor moves, a deeper, longer "bloonk!" sound when an option is selected, and a quick "shwip!" sound when the player backs out of a menu. :D Preloading sounds involves little more than a function with the "slot" to load it into and the resource ID, and playing something is as simple as calling the "play" method of my audio engine on the slot I want to play. The engine makes total abstraction of wether a sound is a wav, mp3, ogg, or whatever (though I intend to reserve slot 0 for the BGM and only load music into that - regardless I might end up having ambiant sounds as MP3s in other slots...)

Indeed.

Your audio engine sounds like some very good handy work.

Ehehe. Sorry. I'm a rambler. But I have a question. Do you have to download something from the web to use OpenAL or does it come with the compiler like GL and GLU?

Beats me. I don't use OpenAL. I believe you have to download it though.

Can I introduce you to google? It should answer your question in mere seconds - it's a cool little tool like that. :) Took me about 5 seconds to find the OpenAL homepage after putting it in there. Give it a shot. :P

Ack. Sorry - just looked back and there was not really any significant mention of OpenAL... I fell stupid right now. :P
