I'm working on a game that I'm hoping to have out by the end of the year. I though it was about time that I annouced it's existance, and get a few initial reactions! Plus, I think if some people other than myself know about the game, it may keep me motivated long enough to finish it. The screenshots don't show very much so far, unfortunatly, as I've done very few walkabout graphics.
I haven't added it to the projects on this site yet, as I haven't properly named it. "Project Distraction" is just the working title I've been using.
Here's a shot of the main character, Ado. The game's cutscene engine will (hopefully) allow basic animation and I'll (hopefully) be able to tell most of the story will full screen characters like this.
Here are a few in game screenshots. I'm quite behind graphically, so they don't look like much, however, they should demonstrate some of the game's basic features.
The screenshot below demonstates the game's nifty textbox engine - The engine automatically places the textboxes next to the speaking NPC in such a way that they don't block any on screen action... or at least it tries to. Just one of the things I'm trying to perfect.
The game is written in such a way as to allow you to control any of the NPC's on a given map - nessicary as the game has a number of head over heels style puzzle sequences that involve you switching between the different characters on your party.
Though it's difficult to show the game's graphical features at the moment, it does have three seperate graphic layers, and I'm planning some neat lighting effects.
That's it for now. I'm hoping to release a demo in about a month's time.
And finally, if you're a musican and you'd like to get involved, please let me know!

Hehehe, I like the textbox idea. Neat. :) I'd offer some music but I have this bad tendency to suck at it so...no dice here. _________________ If you play a Microsoft CD backwards you can hear demonic voices. The scary part is that if you play it forwards it installs Windows. - wallace

Fucking hell, practice then! ;p
If you just give up, you will not get any better... (Note how I am avoiding using apostrophes =p)
I mean, I am far, far, FAR from the best, but does that make me give upÉ (okay, again, that SHOULD be a question mark) If you had heard the stuff I made in the first two years of tracking, you would fucking cringe. If you heard my stuff from my first year, you would fucking die. And if someone heard my stuff from last year, they would probably just say meh. But I did not give up and announce to everyone that I sucked-- I took on a job as musician whenever I could, even if the project was cancelled (as it often was) or my work was rejected. You can learn from failiures and mistakes, and the people that give you helpful, if harsh, suggestions, but you cannot learn from the annoying fucksticks who tell you, without any critique or explanation, that your work is bad.
So, Nek, you should get back into tracking. Get the latest version of modplug and some good samples, and track... Hell, a lot of your work was pretty damn good-- composition wise-- And a lot of it was just pretty damn good all around. I know I took some of the riffs I wrote several years ago from my shitty first year music, and played them-- Turned out to be damn good riffs. Bad samples and repitition can ruin a song, but if you have the motivation to actually KNOW you are not a bad tracker... Fuck it, I am done for the night. ;p
So Nek, at least TRY tracking again before someone else comes in here and decides for you that you are no good.
Blah. Excessive rant over.
Chaotic Harmony, I WOULD offer graphics+music, but I am in a bit of a pickle as my computer is in the shop (but it will be back soon) and I seem to be a bit swamped at the moment. But if you donèt (apostrophe, that should have been) mind having to wait a bit for each song or graphic set, then I could probably help out in a little while.[/code]

Thank you, both of you, for your kind replys.
Nekrophidius, you did some of the music for Mysterious Song, right? That most certainly didn't suck :)
Thanks for your offer of help, Josiah! I have to confess that I'm not very familar with your projects, but judging by your post, you certainly seem determined! If you have the time to help out, I'd really appricate it. I'm on target to finish it by december. What I really need help with is music - I'm happy enough to do the graphics myself. Let me know whan you're ready to begin, and I'll tell you more about the project and the style of music that I need.

Hrm...well okay...if you have anything in mind for music, let me know and I'll see what I can spin up. For some reason, I got a couple of good ideas jumping around right now...weird. :D _________________ If you play a Microsoft CD backwards you can hear demonic voices. Finally, there's now a little playable code. You can get it here. It's basically just a walkabout engine with a lot of waffling about the game is eventually going to be able to do. Bug reports very welcome! _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

There's something funny with the controls. The game would randomly stop taking input and after a few seconds it woud come back. _________________ https://numbatlogic.com

Im running Win XP
There was no problem with game speed, it would just think i was holding down a key when i wasnt.
I started the game again and it didin't reoccour untill i was alt tabbing back and forwards to read that playguide bit in the readme.
Might also be my dual keyboards, but that hasn't affected any other allegero game before. _________________ https://numbatlogic.com
