College application essay wrote:
Many students expand their view of the world during their time in college. Such growth often results from encounters between students who have lived different cultural, economic, or academic experiences. With your future growth in mind, describe a potential classmate that you believe you could learn from either within or outside a formal classroom environment.

How do you answer this without sounding boring and generic? I can't even come up with a personality I can adapt to, since it's such a weird question, and I've never had an experience in which I've learned a life lesson or some crazy bullshit like that from someone.

Try to think of it as coming to a sudden conclusion that changed your outlook on the world, and how you came to it.

Find a politically correct way to describe a minority, and you've got a winning answer.

The whole question is about differences in people, and how you can learn by noticing them. Instead of thinking of it as learning, single out a few classmates who are the most different from you. Not necessarily overall, but different enough in certain categories.

Now take away the people you hate from that list.

If you have one person left, that's a good candidate. I'm not sure if you are supposed to take a specific person but if not, just generalize them.

As far as minorities go, that'd be a sure fire way to get about as generic as you can get. The most interesting answers are probably related more to personality differences. Maybe someone can teach you to be more open-minded, more optimistic, or more pessimistic. Whatever.

You have, as they say, hit the nail on the head.
