Ok, I've got 10 hours left, but I'm not sure if I'll get to work on it before then. Having a kid really set me back farther than I originally thought, heh. Not a problem, though, I'll plan for it better next time.
the game:

For those of you on Linux, grab the latest SVN build of Gia, then copy the Gia binary over to wherever you extracted AQ and rename AQ. That should autorun AQ.lua.
Anyway, there's what I've got. _________________ "Well, last time I flicked on a lighter, I'm pretty sure I didn't create a black hole."-

NOTE- if you download and it crashes- download again. I just updated one of the scripts which had a small error, now fixed. _________________ "Well, last time I flicked on a lighter, I'm pretty sure I didn't create a black hole."-

Well, we may well finish the engine by midnight, but I'm not so sure we'll have more than a walkaround demo. I nice, pretty walkaround demo that has interactive NPCs, but a demo nonetheless because I really don't see how we can get a battle engine done in time....

I don't believe you. You said everything was going fine before, and it wasn't. I'll believe it when DevX posts something. _________________ "Well, last time I flicked on a lighter, I'm pretty sure I didn't create a black hole."-

Don't be so aggressive, Mandrake...
Anyway, I played your game, but I think I might be missing something - you can walkabout that house and the world map, but you can't do anything else? Can you enter the house? _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

Hmm, you reverted to something way old in your last Subversion commit, loosing quite some changes I made. On top of that, it's now totally locking up after the first update when I try to run the example program and crashing with an invalid pointer being freed when I try to run hello world. In short, something is very messed up now, and I don't feel like fixing it.

Well, as I said I didn't get a lot of time to work on it, so there is not a lot there. Bjorn- I had to revert back to some older changes- the changes you made that had it working on Linux broke it on windows. I understand you not wanting to help fix it- that's fine. I would actually perfer to do the linux port myself when the windows port is more stable.
Also- I should've mentioned this- the game is unfinished. You can use the menu systems, and walk around some areas, but as of right now that is all. Mainly because I've had 10.3 hours the whole tiem to work on it. I've been sneaking in time between hours of work and while my kid's asleep. Not a lot of time. But, we have always allowed for unfinished games before *shrugs*. Although the game itself should be done before the next month's end. _________________ "Well, last time I flicked on a lighter, I'm pretty sure I didn't create a black hole."-

I thought that we would have been able to get at least a small functional demo compelted, but time was not on our side, since I was gone all day, I didn't have enough time to get the last few things done on the engine.
We decided that it would be best to simply submit what we've done for the competition. (I'm sure that we won't win..heh, next time I hope to be finished in time, cause I'll have a complete engine and toolset!) and complete the game nevertheless.
Known bugs: when walking to the top of the screen, you'l get stuck.
Pressing spacebar will 'freeze' the game, (would have been menu system)
collision detection is not precise, so you may get stuck in some areas.
Well, here is the download for our very incomplete game project, Dream Destroyer.
I know it isn't much, but hey. against all odds, we worked our asses off 15 hours a day for the past two weeks.
Mind you, I didn't have an engine, nor any tools to create the game.
I had to write a map editor, I had to write a compiler for my OWN scripting language, as well as a parser.
LordGalbalan wrote the virtual machine that loads the scripts...
All in all, it was fun, and we're still going to complete the game!
Congrats to the winner, and to all the contestants! _________________ Principal Software Architect

Well, it runs now, but it goes at like 500fps and flickers like nuts, and all I can do is walk around inside a puddle.

Figured out a way to evade the patterning effect of smooth scrolling. This eliminates most of the bugs. We'll update later.
There are more important things than winning. I think this contest has proven Mandrake correct in his reasoning that competition brings out the best in everybody... whether or not there is a winner.
