Ok, this is the 'official' thread for the comp I just layed down here. Just make a piece of music based on a common theme, which I will soon unveil to you.
Rules are as follows (these are pretty loose, so go with how you feel and it'll proberbly be fine):
- no more than 6 audio tracks. Drums count as one track, and samples/singing count as one track if you're into that.
- Original pieces only - don't resubmit your old stuff, you lazy buggers!
- We start tomorrow, and end on friday! This gives you about 4 days of after work/college, although don't feel obliged to spend that long on it - just submit it when you're done/bored of it.
- it doesn't have to be an epic - just spend a few hours having fun with it, if it's only 30 seconds long thats fine
- You have to submit it! Even if you get to the end and it's the most god awful piece of music on the face of the planet.
- Winners by majority vote. Vote for a 1st, 2nd and 3rd favorite and i'll tally the votes up.
OK, that's good for now. If you want to reccomend a tool, now's the time. I reccomend anvil studio if you like midi's. It's a fully functional free piece of software, and i've seen some great stuff being made with it. I'll proberbly use fruity loops because it's neat. The demo is fully functional, except you can't save/load, only export to mp3.
People involved:
Me
Gooseman
LG
Adam
DevX
Possibly HairMachine, if he can ever get online
possibly Xmark, if he sees this topic in time
anyone else who wants to - just post a piece and you're in!
-----------
Finally, the subject... you are about to arrive at your destination, but you feel the journey has been suspiciously easy. Only a few low level monsters have given you trouble, and you begin to feel uneasy. Suddenly you round a corner/thicket/hill and there it is, right in front of you! God, it looks pretty savage... I think it's about to attack! Heh, ok, so it's a chronicle of your first boss battle, whatever your favourite idea of a boss may be. Get to it! _________________ Previous nicks: MidnightDreamer, The_Anarchist, Shroomasta.

I have something in mind, but I'm really busy at the moment, so it could be a while before I get a chance to work on it. _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

Well I can't work on it tonight but at the moment its sounding quite cool. Mind you, I'm used to using about 12 tracks. Heh heh.. this 6 track only rule is making it harder than originally anticipated.

Ah jeez. I made my entry but completely forgot about the 6-track limit. I use exactly 12 tracks in this song... damnit. Ah well, here it is in case anyone's curious to hear it. It's titled "Prejudice"

Made entirely with Modplug tracker and produced in Cool Edit 2.0.
EDIT: If all drums count as one 'track' regardless of channels used in modplug, I'd actually be just within the limit. (I used 6 channels for my drums, and the guitars are in a couple channels to make them louder, which I'm assuming doesn't really count)

Well this is very differant to JT's (i liked yours by the way, JT).
It was made in anvil studio and is the music for your first boss battle in a futuristic lylat wars style game; which is why it sounds relatively futuristic.
I had fun making this. It took about 2 hours tops probably.
And even if it doesn't sound like it, there are definitely only 6 tracks including drums.

Truth be told, I sort of forgot about the contest too. I have a great many essays to dodge you know :). Anyway, after 2 hours of Fruity Loops, of which more than half was spent learning how to use fruity loops, i've come up with this horrible rubbish. It's about a bog beast of some description. Enjoy:

Ha, I was really put to shame by the other two entries - you guys were amazing! Jon, your stuff is as catchy as ever, and in fact i've got it on loop as I type this :). Very cool. As usual, the beginning is totally inspiring, and when the synth kicks in for the first time... well, it's an experience. Love the random solo's too, it's like you and your bro's speciality.
Josiah, your stuff rocks! I love the guitar work, it's totally bitching, heh. Theres a couple of slides and stuff in there thats particularly impressive, like that section at 1:03. Awesome :). The synth added a neat touch too, I got a load of respect for that too 'cos I totally failed with the synth in my own piece, heh. (also, i'm happy for the drums to be counted as 1 track, I was over by one too... but they were basically all drums!)
Adam, you suck :). Just kidding, but I think we should make him do some kind of forfeit, like making you submit a human beat box of the mario tune or something, heh. You still have about 4 hours to avoid it... hop to it! Any other entries to come in? _________________ Previous nicks: MidnightDreamer, The_Anarchist, Shroomasta.

I've got mine. :)
A quicker bass would have been better, but inspiration came late. This is more like an intro than a theme....

I didn't think it Josiah Tobin's entry had much to do with bosses. It would have been a great final dungeon song, though. :) Good prelude music mixed with resolution.

Well, it's the kinda music I might like to hear as a boss theme. I think that counts. :p

We've not seen DevX's entry yet. :) And weren't there one or two others?
I loved Gooseman's. Classic super-boss fare. Good listening.

Thank you. :)
We should do more of this kind of thing just because its fun. It doesn't have to be a comp.
I can exclusively tell you that Hairmachine never did get online by the way. So he won't be entering.
