Just thought I would post a quick little game that myself and a guy I work with threw together for the office "Happy Holidays" party:

Santa vs. the Snow Monsters.

The premise is that Santa crashed in the middle of a frozen wasteland on his way to deliver toys, and has holed up in an impromptu snow fort to defend himself against the encroaching snow monsters.

The game was designed to work with a dance mat (a'la DDR), but I converted it to work with a keyboard. (It's of course less challenging with the keyboard.) Everyone at the party seemed to enjoy it, so I figured I'd open it up for others to play. The game took about one day total (spread out over three days) to make. He did most of the graphics (all the cool stuff), and I did the programming and the remaining graphics (mostly interface stuff).

Here's a screenie:

You'll need the Shockwave 10 plugin from Macromedia and some sort of hardware-accelerated 3D to play it. (There is a software rendering mode, but it's probably not really playable in it.) It's a one-off, so there might be lingering bugs, but it worked through the whole party, so it should be stable enough to play.

Those snowmen look as if they came from Calvin's front yard. Which is to say, they look neat.

It's symbolic of the war on Christmas.

This year, my cable provider had Happy Holliday ads, Happy Hanukkah ads, and Happy Kwanza ads, but no Merry Christmas ads.

The War on Christmas has to end, play this game!

I thought you did not like drama, NyanNyan.

Is it? Yeah, it's got Santa in it, but he eventually gets plowed by the snow monsters, so the game could go either way, couldn't it? :-)

Heh.

Nephilim, nice work on the Santa versus the Snow Monsters game! So who holds the high-score? :)

Glad you like it. Obviously, there's no online tracking of scores, but the highest score for the dance mat version (that I am aware of) goes to a guy who works in our multimedia studio who managed to take out about 140 monsters before succumbing to their onslaught. And that was on his first and only try. The nearest runner-up is in the 90's somewhere.

I don't know what the highest keyboard version score is, since people have been playing that a lot in my absence, but I'm quite certain it's well over 140. The difficulty plateaus out once you get six monsters coming at you, and I suspect one could play indefinitely if they can handle that difficulty level.
