Well, I told myself that I would release a demo of this game to the general public by the end of this month, however small. So here it is!
From the project page:
Jack awakens. The streets around him are in ruins. The sky is dark. And the dead are hunting him.
After Dark is a modern-day tale of the struggle of survivors against the undead in Grim City: a fortress that seals their escape, and possibly their tombs. Jack, having no recollection of how he came to be in such a place, becomes the catalyst to a desperate plan. One that will unseal the city gates and offer the survivors one last opportunity to escape.
How will the gates be unlocked? Why were they locked? Why do the dead walk? And which survivors are working against Jack?
And what's new:
- 1000% more maps (11, up from 1)
- 500% more tile graphics (around 30, from 6)
- At least 3 interactive NPCs (talk to 'em... multiple times!)
- Rather shiney intro sequence
- A proper title screen, with an equally proper menu
- Lots of ad-lib dialogue
- Weapon and armour now have graphics
- Now worth playing for a few minutes
- Crapeola machine gun firing effect
- Did I mention it's shiney?
Obligatory screenshots:
Here's the official site. The game's far from finished, but the demo is fun for a few minutes.

Well, as it's only available for Windows, I won't be able to play it, but I thought I would chime in and say that from the screenshots, it looks like some good retro fun. Good luck with your project. _________________ Visit the Sacraments web site to play the game and read articles about its development.

Thanks! Actually, the source is available, so if you have a FreeBASIC compiler on your system, you could compile it yourself.
But if there's enough demand for a Linux version, I'd be happy to compile it and make it available for you guys.

Cool that you're releasing the source code. Good man.
I'm on the Mac, not Linux, so if there's a FreeBasic compiler for Mac, great, but last I checked, there wasn't one. _________________ Visit the Sacraments web site to play the game and read articles about its development.

Watch out! It's inflated to an almighty 100 KB in size, due to the sheer bulk of artistic effort on my part!

I gave this a try yesterday evening - I can see that it's coming together very nicely! A few lines of dialogue are a little dodgy, but I love the overall feel of the game, and the setting.
I also love the idea of an RPG short story - it's something more people should do. _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

Great atmosphere. I look forward to seeing something more playable.

I'm doing everything myself, which is why the graphics are craptacular. I'm not too big on writing, but I'm trying my best to set the writing in this game apart from the writing in other games. In a lot of indie RPGs, I notice that the scripting is an afterthought, and I don't want that to happen with this game.
Next demo release will have a shoddy battle system.
