We are currently looking for Beta testers for a new game that is currently still in development. It is currently in a demo state and before we proceed with content we would like to work out all bugs and other gameplay type problems. If you are interested, please read on.
Who Are We?
Alternate Reality Studios was created in December of 2005 and have released one game for shareware, Dragon Orbs. Dungeons of Darkness is our second project and currently development is going very well. We are an indie game company and enjoy playing games just as much as creating them.
What's In It For Me?
Since we are an independant outfit, we cannot compensate testers. However, if you are selected as a tester you will receive a free copy of the game when it does release. You will also be the first to see how it works and the first to voice your suggestions and opinions.
What Kind of Game Is Dungeons of Darkness?
Dungeons of Darkness is action/strategy/rpg game inspired by the boardgame Hero Quest. With a completely top-down view it closely resembles boardgame play by moving your adventurers through a dungeon, while trying to complete your objective at hand. There are six different classes to choose from and dozens of different enemies to impede your progress. Treasure are abound within the walls of these dungeons, but you will also need to be weary of traps every step of the way. It does draw parallels to the boardgame if you are familiar with it, but it also has some cool features that we thought would be great for the game. For one, an easy to use campaign editor is available so that anyone who wishes can create their own campaign and share it with their friends or the world. If you choose to test, this is something that you will get a great deal of exposure to and probably be light years ahead of others when the game is released. The scripting component is very easy to use, but can be very advanced and complex if you want it to be. We want to give the campaign makers virtually free reign within the confines of the game rules.
What Will I Need To Do As a Tester?
Testers will need to play through campaigns and report any errors or bugs that come up while playing. It may be necessary to play through some campaigns multiple times, the first playing through normally and the second trying to break or cheat the game in some way so we can find these holes and patch them up. Testers will also report anything they think needs fine tuning regarding content, ie. if a mission is to hard, an enemy is too powerful, stats should be changed, abilities should be modified to make for an easier/harder experience, etc.
We certainly don't expect our testers to sit around all day and test the game. We know everyone has lives as do we. We want this to be a fun experience and beneficial for everyone involved.
How Do I Sign Up?
The first step to signing up is going to our Forums and creating an account. This is necessary because most, if not all communication between the development team and testers will be done through our forums. Some communication will be done through email, but only announcements to make sure everyone is aware.
The second step would be to go to our Beta Signup Page and fill out the beta application there. There is a selection process because in this first stage of beta we would like to get different system configurations to see how performance and errors occur on the different system. This is also the reason for the system spec questions. Once your finished, send the application and wait to hear back from us. It's that simple. We look forward to hearing from you and thanks for your time.
