Alright - I so got a little over excited about Pandemic. It is, in fact, a rather silly game. Let me make it up to you by talking about the game that's been keeping me from getting any work done on my contest entry - Clean Asia. Windows only, unfortunately.
It's a bizzare shootemup where you can't actually shoot. You're a point that can "thrust" about in space, tearing debris off enemy ships. You can then attract this debris to you and fire it back at the enemy. It takes a while to get used to, but it's a lot of fun. So far I can only get to the seventh boss in the Thailand level, and I haven't even really tried the others yet.
There's also a more traditional "reflector" ship that uses the debris to power up his guns, but the attractor ship is a lot more fun to use.
Here are a few screenshots from the game:
(Don't worry. I'm not going to start posting every cool indie game I come across or anything like that.) _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

Asia should be written, "a ji a" in katakana, not eishia.

Though, in all fairness, it would make more sense if the Japanese did just switch to pronouncing it that way. For example, they could start calling it "pu din gu" instead of "prin". Or how about "taipu raitaa" instead of "mashin"?

Pronouncing "Asia" as エイシャ only makes sense to English speakers - not to speakers of any of the other European language, and certainly not to the Greek who first invented the word.

My point is, if you're going to steal a word from another language and change its pronunciation to match to your own language's phonlogical set, you might as well do the conversion right.

I wouldn't get hung up on that sorta thing. The game itself, as in after the title screen, is brilliant. _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

Hi, all! Creator of the game here. As for the spelling error, it's on purpose. I study Japanese at the local university, actually. I figured I'd pay tribute to the wonderful engrish present in so many asian games, by putting some naihongou (or whatever you'd call bad Japanese) in it.
(Yeah, I realize how pathetic I am for registering only to explain this to you guys.)
Thanks promoting the game Echo ;)

Heh, yeah, we're really hurting for new members around here. Great to see you on these boards.
You should put some of your old games on your website as well! I really enjoyed Illegal Communication back when it was released. _________________ http://www.distractionware.com
