I've been looking into starting up an RPG project again but i don't really want to start from scratch and be sick of it half way through. So i'm looking to see if anyone is willing to licence the code from one of their RPGs for me to start with. I'd like to think that i'd release the game as shareware one day but I know that's like a one in a billion chance, just something you should keep in mind.
Some things i'm looking for:
C++
Scripting
ATB/Turn based battles perferably where you can see yourself.
Pretty much as Final Fantasy like as possible.
Closed source.
Some engines i've been interested in:
ARC Legacy
Salo
Fenix Blade
The Moonlight Engine
But if you have a game or an engine in a deicent level of development post about it here and i'll take a look.
I'll now turn over the thread to posts about how i should go open source. _________________ https://numbatlogic.com

I'll have something to show off in a couple of weeks. It's an RPG engine that I've been working on on and off for a couple of years.
By the way, why do you want a closed source engine? I was half thinking about going open source after a while. _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

Mainly beacuse when/if i ever release it commercially i don't want to have to release my code. I'd hate to see somone come along with a better art budget and my code making more sales.
So you could release your code as open source if you wished, or relicence me something as closed source that you had previously released as open. I'd just want my copy to be without that restriction. _________________ https://numbatlogic.com

That sounds fair enough. My engine meets all the criteria on your list, so it's yours if you want it. It's basically this engine that I used in the Hecate contest, plus about two years of development. It does all sorts of nifty things now! _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

Alright, the latest version of the Moonlight Engine currently goes by the name RAGE, and can be picked up using Subversion from here:
http://www.lindeijer.nl/svn/rage/trunk/
(you can also access it with your browser to just browse the files a bit)
The engine is GPL but its copyright is no longer with me, since I've already sold it (see the header of any source file). However, I may be able to change this should you be interested.
I think you'll have some problems getting stuff compiled and running properly though, since I'm the only one who has been doing that and November 2005 was the last time that I did it (see the NEWS file for what I've been doing back then). Well, maybe I should also get a Windows executable up somewhere.

On a seperate note it's nice to see photo avatars again. How is it working for that mp3 company? _________________ https://numbatlogic.com

Adam, Rameen is fine if you want to use RAGE (Moonlight Engine) commercially later on. However, this is not enough since I sold him the copyright under the condition that RAGE would stay GPL. However, I am also fine when you really want to make a closed game later on (even though I'd very much prefer if you just closed the data, not the source). So, whatever, keep RAGE on your list of engines to consider as far as that goes.
For me, working at Fraunhofer IPSI (and since 1st of January at Fraunhofer IGD, since IPSI closed) means mostly Java coding using IntelliJ IDEA, which is comfortable. However, I work part time because I also need to write my thesis! The deadline for this got moved for the 2nd time now, and is now set on the end of April. My thesis is the bane of my existence, but no tome, no degree. :-)
Where is your photo avatar? :-)
