A dainty elvin warrior with an inferiority complex and a hot temper.
A thrill-junky rogue who considers defying death the best alternative to boredom.
A cute but scatterbrained sorceress with destructive tendencies.
A tree-hugging nature-priest who wonders why everyone can't just get along.

Together, they are going to save a kingdom from destruction...
...if they don't kill each other first.

Okay, this is a project that's still a ways out from completion. I've actually entered it into a competition that will require the playable "demo version" to be out on or prior to April 31, 2008.

I am kinda following in the same vein as my article on GameDev.net way-to-friggin-long ago, "How To Build a Game In A Week From Scratch With No Budget," when I threw together a crappy little RPG in one week while learning PyGame. I am posting weekly updates on my progress, my problems, my stupid mistakes, my frustrations, and my (few) triumphs.

I'm about three months in at this point with the weekly posts. I intend to keep going until it's done. Some of them are going to be short and sweet. Most (so far) have been larger, and I've gotten some great discussion on the forums with suggestions and ideas.

Anyway, if you are interested in checking it out, the website is:

Frayed Knights

There's a lot of information up on it already. Comments VERY welcome. Even the less-than-flattering ones.

What sorta RPG have you come to expect?

Part of the humor of Frayed Knights is from turning expectations on their ear a little.

While it won't be in the demo version, one of the quest comes from a dragon bookie employing the party to rescue his nephew, who has been captured by the heiress to the throne of a particular nasty goblin tribe.

That's right, you'll have to rescue a dragon from a princess...

This sounds interesting, but all the links are broken for me. The site is down too.

Huh - that's odd. Mighta been some kinda Internet burp on your end or mine... I just double-checked the links and they seem okay in Firefox and IE 7...

Anybody else have that problem? And were the images there for you Josiah?

Damn, that is weird. :( Everything's still broken for me. Even his signature link.

I know I've encountered hosts that won't let certain countries access them (for whatever reason), but I'm in Canada... I wouldn't think that's the case.

I'll check with my system dude... but I'm pretty sure we don't restrict Canadian IP addresses :)

That REALLY sucks... I wonder who else isn't able to get to the site? Or is this an early warning of DNS failure?

I get the same problem when I load this thread at work, but I'm sure that's due to the content filter they have there that doesn't allow me to visit most game sites.

I'll be keeping an eye on your progress, Coyote! Best of luck!

Josiah: Dunno if it'll work, but try searching google for the phrase "start using CGIProxy" and use one of those nph things. I find it dead handy for work :)

I will. I should have another update some time this evening.

Magic system woes. And Torque woes.

You all probably know the drill. But please feel free to post suggestions and ideas! I can really use all the help I can get.
