Has anyone else on this forum purchased this game?
It seems like it's a miracle if you can get it running without any problems.
Personally, I'm highly disappointed at both the game and Bethesda. Seems like the customers are the betatesters nowadays. I simply can't get this game running smoothly, screen freezes randomly, game freezes when the radio plays, game freezes when I move from a house to the outside etc. etc.
Now it has gone by a month without any sound from bethesda about a patch... I bought a really expensive frisbee.
Funny part is that my friend has a replica of my computer but uses xp instead of vista and the game runs perfectly for him. _________________

Bethesda usually manages to find interesting ways to screw up their code. I can't wait for the day when game coding finally abandons ancient crap like C/C++ for something more sensible, so we can finally have a decent gaming experience. _________________ http://www.weeaboo.se

Which doesn't really float any better than the game runs ;)

Get a console :P
I have Fallout on PS3 and it's pretty much the best game I've played since Final Fantasy 3 on SNES :P

I ordered Fallout 3 for Xbox 360, it should be arriving any day now... I can't wait, it looks awesome! :)
I find that I rarely buy computer games anymore (unless they are not available on Xbox 360 or Wii), because of the DRM issues I've experienced in the past trying to get legitimately purchased software to install and run correctly.

Don't blame the C++ for Bethesda's failures (or the inability of most people these days to write anything that resembles working and/or elegant code).

Not sure about the comparison with the greatest RPG of all time, but I also have it on the PS3, and it definitely is excellent. :D

I heard wrong....
I got it the other day...and ITS VERY AWESOME!
It crashed every now and then, the nvidia driver decides to commit suicide. So just make it a habit to quicksave a lot.
It sometimes runs for 7 hours and other times for 20 minutes...so its not exactly easy for me to track down exactly what causes the crash.
One thing I have noticed though is it definitely crashes if you use any xp cheats before you turn age 19. (trying not to reveal any storyline)
System Specification:
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 Ghz Mobile CPU
512MB nVidia GeForce 8600M GS Video Adapter
4GB DDR3 RAM
Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit
-- it runs on max settings fine except for the random crashes
If I set to medium settings, the game seems to run longer without crashing. This gives me reason to think that the textures are being allocated and not being de-allocated, or maybe even model vertex data; but something is causing this game to die; and hopefully someone will issue a patch; But until then, I'll still be enjoying the hell out of this great game!
Overall I really REALLY like this game!
I've played through it twice already, once with and once without cheats.
tcai can be useful if your health gets low..its cheating but it really comes in handy if you have NOTHING in your inventory to heal you and you stumble on a handful of those big pain-dealing super mutants! _________________ Principal Software Architect

As what I heard on the official support forum you shouldn't use quicksave as it's just a matter of time before the data becomes corrupt.
Edit: Oh, The new patch has arrived. Gotta get it and see if the game is playable now.
Edit 2: The patch didn't solve anything for me. This game is over and done for me. _________________

So far, I have not made it very far in Fallout 3 because I have been busy playing Fable 2 and Left 4 Dead (which my girlfriend is totally hooked on), but the portion I played was great.
I am just starting to explore the first town, but I may start over because I think I want to reallocate my skills/attributes. Any recommendations on how to allocate the initial skills/attributes?

Verious: I focused on strength for my first 5 level-ups.
I also upped my melee skill and small gun skills for a few levels.
That plus quick fingers for avoiding enemies' attacks made it easier for me to get through it. Its an awesome game. I wish I had time to play through it again, but I can't right now. _________________ Principal Software Architect

If I recall correctly, the first two missions seem to require "repair" and "explosives" skills. Are these skills useful later in the game?

every skill has some use, but they're not all critical to get through it.
