So yeah, who would have thought that I could have Virus Protection even on Linux?
I downloaded an emulator for the SEGA CD because I wanted to check out a game that I read about..anyway..
clearly I will not be able to check out the game. :P
Thank you Crossover!
And damn the bastard who infected the emulator download!
I've reported the file to zophar. _________________ Principal Software Architect

I worked for Symantec a few years ago. Not the anti-virus division, but I got my eyes opened on the security issues on pretty much all operating systems. The Linux attacks just aren't as prevalent because:
A) It's much more rare than Windows, so it presents less of a target of itself (virus writers tend to want to get more "bang for their buck" and infect the greatest number of machines....
B) I don't know if anybody's created nice and easy virus-writing wizards for the Script Kiddies for Linux yet. They sure have for Windows.
C) The folks running Linux tend to have more of a clue of what they are doing when they maintain their system than your average Windows user.
There is a chance that this could be a false positive detection - that does happen sometimes. But better safe than sorry. _________________ Tales of the Rampant Coyote - Old-School Game Developer talks Indie Games, RPGs, and the Games Biz

AGES has been the target of virus writers, since it is one of the oldest Sega Genesis emulators to support Sega CD (actually, I think it was the first). It was spread around a lot back in the day as a joke, since emulating the Sega CD was once an impossible dream. It's not the first time it's happened and surely won't be the last. At least it wasn't a rickroll...
You could always try Gens if you need a Linux-native Sega Genesis emulator that supports the Sega CD. _________________ If you play a Microsoft CD backwards you can hear demonic voices. The scary part is that if you play it forwards it installs Windows. - wallace

Good luck!
Remember to make eye contact with your interviewer, and charm 'em? :)
Am I wrong in thinking that virus writers for Linux are risking a lot more peril than those for Windows? I mean just a matter of the political situation, more virus writers voting left than right (if they vote at all). It just seems socially riskier.
I remember reading an article in TIME Magazine by an infamous hacker who had since been released, arguing that the hackers who shut down the big search companies were the real criminals. The point is that hackers respond to common threats, and given their home base is Linux it seems they would be more critical about each other to that end. Like, "you're a backstabber!" and other stuff.
Not to mention that in that community everyone knows who wrote what....
